Good news - for a change

Thought I'd pass on the good news. Had the staples removed from my elbow this pm and The Surgeon then signed me off. Apparently the loose screw had had a burser formed round it and was forcing it out. They had finally managed to create a culture from the fluid and it turned out to be traces of the normal (what ever it was he said) that usually resides on the skin. It was sensitive to the antibiotics that My GP had prescribed for the infection. So if anything untoward should happen that's what I have to go for. The breaks had knitted moderately well and he had had a good wiggle with the bone while I was asleep - didn't feel a thing at the time. The joins weren't very smooth owing to the missing bits he hadn't been able to put back during the original operation.

So 18 and a half weeks after the wife nudged me and 3 operations I'm signed off. I probably won't get a fully straight arm - still finding it funny to reach out for things and I'm 2 - 3 inches short but I should get a bit better with time. So time, perseverance and patience will tell.

On the general health front I've started jogging again, twice a week, only short 4 - 4.5 mile runs and time has dropped from 13 mins/mile to 10.6, right buttock still giving me some gip after a couple of miles but it's slowly easing off. Numbness in thigh is slowly fading.

No the pain in the bum and numbness in the thigh were where the nerves were affected when I was slamdunked against the wall or onto the floor. Wasn't making a careful observation at the time. Have been assured that the nerves will recover in time - may take many months . At least individual nerves often self heal but slowly.

Ask the surgeon if a tens machine will help. They are very cheap, I just bought a new one with a far better spec than the old one for £39.99. They are medically approved and many hopspitals sell them. Mine is a 'Body Care Plus', from the local chemist shop.

Not applicable in these 2 cases, we've got one for Anne. Also surplus monies from last years run sponsorship bought a couple for Hunters Moor. At laest now I'm signed off the Physio's at Hunters Moor have promised to give me a little tender loving care each time they sort Anne out.
