deuces wild
Regardless of the difference in how postal codes are noted, what are some of the high end locations in your city or country and how do they compare to those in the US? -pops-
I live in what used to be called the "stockbroker belt" of Southern England but is now inhabited mainly by pop stars, assorted well known thespians and "celebrities".I bought my current house in 1983 for what was then, a reasonable amount of money - £46,000. At the last (free) valuation I had done it would sell today at £1,500,000.My younger son recently (nine months ago) bought a property near Chichester for £2,000,000. It is now valued at £2,950,000.These aren't boasts, they are just indications of the sheer stupidity of today's property markets. No way is my house worth that kind of money. In case anyone wants to look it up, my postcode begins GU27.

People pay over 2 million pounds for houses!???That's nearly (by today's exchange) $4,000,000.... that's obscene!Houses around here go for about $60,
-pops-
Where my son lives (not far from me) there are houses costing a lot more than his did.About half a mile away from here there is a house on sale at £6,000,000. It was lived in, until very recently, by a well known singer of popular music. He lived alone, apart from staff, in an eight bedroom property. It shows a very warped sense of values brought about by some extremely greedy parasites of society. I've got into trouble on forums before by naming the "profession" that I mean by these people so, I'll leave it at that.
artist
Whatever the value - unless you intend to sell, it's just numbers on paper! We bought this bungalow 11 years ago for £62,000 - now worth (supposedly) nearly £300,000. Ridiculous!!! It's more expensive here in Highcliffe than a few miles up the road in Bournemouth. It used to be very cheap to buy near the sea - now it generally costs more than other places in the area - that applies all over generally, I think. (I.m talking just coastal places)
deuces wild
Looks like some of you folks struck it rich on housing. It sure is expensive on the other side of the pond. With rising housing prices it is getting tougher and tougher for young folks to be able to come up with a down payment (20% of the mortgage value here in the states) on a house and then afford the payments. Tankus
East London prices have gone up the same rate ..Artist ..I bought mine at £64k after the last property slump ..Its a 3 story Victorian terrace ...One of my neighbours went for £200k just before Christmas , on a fairly "tired" flat , which was less than the bottom half of my house ...not too sure , if the garden was included though ........!Most of the houses in my street have been converted into flats I'm in the throes of a major renovation at the mo.... ( I hope to be finished by Christmas) ... not to sure exactly what I would clear , I'll get a evaluation when its done ....turning it back into a house Prices have dropped a bit in the last two months in the last few months though .......Its a buyers market...........now ....!..It'll rocket again if we get the Olympics though ..... ! ..bit of a long wait though There is no way I would be able to get on the housing chain now if I was a first time buyer ..... John Major and Black Monday did me one favour ...and you from the looks of it ...at any rate Artist ......Only 3 years ago I was up the Taff and Rhondda looking for a miners cottage to do up with my brother in law ....They were going for £20K ....but we ummed and arred .......... bit more dosh to play around with now ....but even the dogs in the same villages have gone up to £60k in 3 years ....ah well ....missed opportunity ...There are now generational mortgages to be had in London now ...and four times max wage ones too .... wowzer...my bet is the rates are slowly going to go up ...not too sure how much of an investment it would be ...now .... It was a dead cert ....now a bit iffy ...methinks Which ever government gets in there will be hard economic choices to be made ..plus all the pension black holes will come home to roost , and things like the NHS which are only costed at todays expenditure till 2008 ...then its payback ...the economy has been artificially been held up by a 1 in 4 new job creation in the civil sector ...... Gordon Browns pension raid will run dry in two years ...were heading for a slump ...which has already begun ...which is why Blair called a year early ....! Doesnt matter who gets in ...Its a belt tightner....coming up

Sir T Fireball
ooooooh Property threads...my fave :flowers: £2 mill property is VERY common nowadays - £4 mill + is still quite rare though.Tankus, you won't have to wait for the Olympics. Your local 'boom' will kick back in after Summer. As for interest rates; maybe a small short term rise, but they will drop over the next five years....Europe beckons :( Generally speaking, biggest effect on localised property prices are based upon schools and their success/failure in the league tables.
