catgate
It's vegetarianism taken to power of n. It reminds me of Jo Brands remark that if God had not wanted us to eat animals he would have made them of something other than meat.
deuces wild
I would never wear fur, neither would my wife or kids. That, however, is due solely on the fact that it is not our style. I would say, however, that I do not see the need for anyone to wear fur, fashion statement or not.I cant get stoked over it ..... I wear leather on my feet , round my waist ...and my fav jacket must be about a third of a cows worth .....You really cannot compare cows leather to fur. The cow or calf is not killed for the sole purpose of it's hide........the hide is actually a by-product as the meat is far more valuable and marketable. The entire animal is used to either feed or clothe us.Fur, on the other hand, is normally the only thing sought from a seal, mink, beaver, fox, sable...etc as the meat from these animals in not normally consumed by humans. We are no longer in the cave man and middle ages where it was necessary to kill these animals for their coats of fur to keep us warm, although I do know that some people in the northern regions still rely on the fur collected from seals or bears to provide clothing or shelter....and that is understandable. Why other folks need to wear it is beyond me. That said, I would never go to the extreme (as some groups do) of pouring animal blood on the furs worn by some.To each their own. Lamb Chop
Is/did anyone watch this on BBC , i watched the first 10minutes then when i saw a chinese guy slam a animal to the floor i had to switch it over as it was sick. Whats your views on this trade? :( Well fm this I understand it is the inate cruelity which you are referring to.I loathe the cruelty man displays to animals. Particularly some Asian races who do not seem to have the same set of values as Europeans. Upbringing and culture, but it goes down vey badly with me I'm afraid.Wouldnt go to Korea for the World Cup because they eat Dogs, and not only eat them but are extremely cruel in their handling, care or in most cases non-care and inhumane killing, they have this sick notion that boiling them alive after bearly beating them to death will tenderise the meat.Chinese and most do exactly the same, the trade in dogs fm Australia has been supposedly halted except for the very expensive breeds where some middle class as actually taking them as pets and not dinner.Sorry I cant handle this and try to give Chinese anything the flick but hard these days as they seem to have all manufacturing - still worth the effort to hunt down other countries products. Canadians need to halt killing baby fur seals too.Just a personal point of view. :) I wear sheepskin but as someone said, the sheep are not killed for their skins, but for their meat, and skin is a by product and we do use humane methods. Thats my excuse anyway.
andsome
I agree with DW on this. Cattle, sheep pigs etc are bread for meat, and the leather and skins are a byproduct. I cannot for the life of me see why certain silly women feel the need to wrap themselves up in a coat which looks far better on the animal. Some of our native animals are now being slaughtered by mink, due to this stupid trade, and equally stupid animal rights activists who have smashed their way into mink farms and released them. Watchful
Agree totally with deuces wild on this. Decorative fur looks better on the animal. Those nations who do condone inhumane ways of catching and killing animals just make me feel disgusted
Thos
I, too, agree with DW, and he makes the point well that certain folk need animal skin for protection in the extremes of weather. For the rest, it is disturbing that this trade seems to be starting up again as a "fashion" item.Thos. r4may
Agree totally with DW on this, also against the senseless slaughter of whales by the Japanese and others.it's an abomination.
joysness
I also agree with DW.Fur should be "worn" by animals, not people. If God had wanted people to wear fur he would have given us fir instead of skin.Inhumane treatment of animals is a reflection of how little some people care about the sanctity of all life. Watchful
Inhumane treatment of animals is a reflection of how little some people care about the sanctity of all life you dont eat chicken ,eggs, or bacon then Even if you eat animal products you can choose to eat only those that are grown and slaughtered humanely. Surely that's what most meat-eaters want? There's is no need in this day and age for it to be any other way, except greed and certainly no need for animals to be slaughtered just so that their coats can be worn as fashion accessories. There would be no demand for such 'products' if heartless folk didn't buy them either.

joysness
Inhumane treatment of animals is a reflection of how little some people care about the sanctity of all life you dont eat chicken ,eggs, or bacon thenI rarely eat chicken, eggs or meat.Actually, I eat very little because plants are alive too so eating anything is killing something as far as I'm concerned.I find I really don't need much and I really don't like food all that much. Only eat 'cause it's necessary. What I do eat is organic and in the case of animals raised and slaughtered humanely.
Watchful
There's is no need in this day and age for it to be any other way, except greed never pick a bargin then ....? You obviously missed the point (I was referring to mass-production methods) No. I never pick a bargain when it comes to animal products.
