CurlyWhirly
I don't carry out anything as complicated as that I just run Crap Cleaner, a registry cleaner and then I run the usual malware scans first of all. Then I backup using Drive Image 7 which hasn't let me down once over the last few years of using it. rong
You may need to go higher than that.
deuces wild
Actually my routine is close to yours Chris but not quite as intense. I try to remember to do a full backup on my external HD monthly. This routine has saved me several times, especially when the restore points in system restore vanished when I needed them the most. :)
dadyassa
I hope you two Chris and curlywhirley, keep your previous backus handy ;) Cos you do imho the most scariest things, Windows update and registary cleaning before your backup ? r4may
I just run Crap Cleaner, a registry Scrub, Win doctor, malware scan then Defrag. Then Ghost Backup.Never been let down.
-pops-
Ccleaner, malware scans then Acronis backup to its own hard drive.Only after that I do updates, install new software and whatever else wants doing that might, just might, adversely affect the smooth running of my machines. catgate
It's a jolly good idea, Tankus. Unfortunately all those who have ever tried it over the last two millenia have had to confess failure.
andsome
I run Crap Cleaner every day, and one of either SUPERAntispyware, A Squared, or Ewido. Nod 32 I run now and then when I think about it. I backed up the HD a few weeks ago to Acronis, but don't feel the need to do it again yet, as there has not been much in the way of Windows updates etc, and I can easily update all the anti Malware programs after using Acronis should I need to. I have uninstalled Spy Defense, Adaware and Spybot S & D. I feel that the anti Malware programs that I run at present are better than those that I have uninstalled. CurlyWhirly
I hope you two Chris and curlywhirley, keep your previous backus handy ;)I always have 2 backups to fall back on, well in fact 3 as I also have XP in a 'virgin' state i.e. no applications, programs or drivers installed as it saves me having to reinstall Windows if the need arises.Cos you do imho the most scariest things, Windows update and registary cleaning before your backup ?I don't see how running a registry cleaner before backing up is bad?I run a registry cleaner which is safe and I have been using it for the last 4 years with no problems ;)
andsome
I too run a registry cleaner now and again, and have also used it for ages with NO problems whatsoever. RegScrub XP
dadyassa
I just feel that playing about with the registry must be the biggest cause of PC problems, and windows upgrades the next. ;)
CurlyWhirly
I just feel that playing about with the registry must be the biggest cause of PC problemsWell not in my experience so perhaps I have been lucky and windows upgrades the next. ;)If you are referring to Vista then when it's eventually released, I will be installing it on a new PC and not upgrading from XP, as I agree with you that it can cause problems.
