artist Posted June 4, 2006 Report Share Posted June 4, 2006 Off to Scotland tomorrow. Going to stay in Cumbria on the way up then on to Blair Drummond for a week. Then, if the weather isn't too bad, we'll have a few days in the Lake District on the way back home.We bought a (newer) caravan so it will be the first time out in it. It's bigger and has a shower room so I will at least be clean! :D Be good! No rude jokes - no being nasty to each other - no talking about me, unless it's good. June, July and August and sometimes September are the worst month's up in the Highland Region. Down here in the Border area March onwards is quite common for them to start biting. This year so far they have been OK , I think it is the start of a late summer that has kept them subdued. It is only the female of the specie that bites and that is only when she is pregnant. artist Posted June 15, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2006 Got back this afternoon just in time for the England match.Had a lovely time in Scotland - the midges were only just emerging - so not too many. Had lovely weather for the first week too. P**d down on the monday night just before we were moving on. Luckily the sun came out and dried the awning. Not a lot of fun packing up a wet awning, I can tell you!We moved down country to just outside Telford. Stayed at a place called High Ohn - there was a Little Ohn too - for some reason Hubby had a brain block and kept on calling it Hard Ohn! Found another steam train to have a ride on. Just love them! Such a lovely way to travel. Not sure I'd be awake for a long journey though - the swaying and the 'clackety-clack' of the wheels on track make me drowsy.Those motorways up north are just awful - talk about caravan congestion! - more like HGV congestion! SO many of them! It's not like that down south, except maybe on the M25.It's nice to be home - looking forward to the next trip in July............ :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I asked the Midges to hang back for a couple of weeks so as not to give the visitors the wrong impression about Scotland. They are starting to bite now though. You must have no soul. Even the comparatively humble steam traction engine is a wonderful piece of mans ingenuity. Steam upset the Luddites, but then some people do get upset. Even the Tolpuddle Martyrs were upset. I have often thought how luck they were not to have come from the next village down the road. It was called Tomm.
