Not really - we simply have serious social problems, be awash with illegal immigrants, have a soaring crime rate, be taxed to the hilt, have an awful education system, a plague of single parent families, major binge drinking problems, a poor national health service, massive road congestion, lousy public transport, declining manufacturing industries, poor job prospects for the young, city ghettoes, a drug epidemic, awful TV programes (mainly American), terrible weather, major race relations problems, a drought, high taxation, soaring gas prices, serious pollution, rampant corruption in high places, major pension problems, growing obesity, high gun crime ..... and much, much, more.However, we are World champions at hooliganism and football violence so things are not all bad.Ho hum - really sounds just like Australia to me Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Regarding the Tories, I cannot answer your question, because I don't honestly know, and neither does anyone else. You have however illustrated a point with your question. Frequently. when a topic about the governments many failings come up on the forum, the replies by Labour supporters, instead of being a robust defence of their policies, just asks about the Tories. The last Tory government is now history, and the future is another matter. I doubt very much that Ukip will ever become a major force in British politics. I DID vote for them at the European elections, merely as a vote toward showing that MANY people in this country want NO further intervention in our affairs by the EU. If the current constituency MP locally stands again, I will vote for him, on his excellent record as a constituency MP, and not out of love for one party or another, he happens to be a Tory, and was one of the few at the last election who INCREASED his majority, simply because of his record. I don't know whether or not Cameron would take us out of the EU, I don't even know whether this is now possible or not, but I would seriously hope that if elected he would stand up to them better than B'liar has. Nasty little creatures that come up the bath drain pipe if you dont put a kitchen strainer into it. :D WE had 1983 - 1996 Labor - gave our jobs away by lowering tariffs, had an accord so that the bottom line would improve by holding back wages and increasing productivity,generally sucked up to everyone strutting the world stage, and laid down and got walked over by the UN, left debts of 90 billion dollars and 18% interest rates.1996 got a Liberal Government as everyone now sick of high interest rates, high unemployment, etc etc and big business being in bed with the Labor guys, both latest Labor MPs left Parliament as multi millionaires, strange on their pay which is too high with too many perks and lurks, but not that high. This Government now in its 4th term, interest rates down as low as 6.3/4% paid off the 90 billion over the years, got us into surplus, got unemployment down, lowered income tax and put in a tax benefits scheme which means anyone with kids get a benefit, only missed out the no kids lot and the older ones to date. My beef is inflation rate is supposedly 3% but as petrol has risen prices from 94c a litre to around $1.49 the price of food has skyrocketed - nothing like 3% - meat 15% or more in some cases. Have to be rich to eat steak at $45 a kg and rump at $39 - mince at $17 leaving sausages at $8Kg the only cheap meal. Apart from that we have more and more Africans and Middle Eastern refugees coming in via the 1951 Convention of the Refugee - many of whom do not speak English, havent any skills, and of course will be on welfare for ever and a day.Political correctness is alive and well and stifling any debate on the above subject by imediately silencing any dissent with name calling = racist being the usual. Sad old world and yes I am only a year younger than Alan Ho so does that make me a coffin banger - my only thought on that is - yes we did have the very best of the world IMHO my generation, saw the lot, including for me being bombed out at age 2 and buried, and seeing first orange and banana, made a nice change form stuka's following one down the road firing at the kids for fun . I feel sorry for the ones born into the corrupt world we have now. Read today of Woolworth's Chairman - saying how integrity matters in post Christian times, then how his company has been fined $8.9 million for misrepresentation How are our grandkids grandkids going to be answered when they ask why didnt the ancestors do something to stop the rot Brits are realists not negative, also speak their mind, as someone already said, Free Speech is still ours in spite of the marxist pc dogma.
