CurlyWhirly
mild rumbles in the distance this morning .....I've been lucky as over the last few days, I have only had the one thunderstorm but through the day it is too hot (well for me anyway). andsome
In my part of the Midlands we have still not had rain for days.Have you any water restrictions in your area andsome? To the best of my knowledge, having been in our house for forty years, we have never had water restrictions. South Staffordshire Water Company is our supplier, and they appear to have plenty of underground reserves. Having said that, we don't believe in waste, and although we water expensive plants, we NEVER pump thousands of gallons onto the lawn, grass always recovers once rain comes. We have not had any of the storms of the last couple of days, and the gardens are getting parched. Playing bowls last night I was on the green at about 8-30 PM, and it was touch and go whether we needed the lights switching on, it got steadily darker and darker, as the thunder rumbled round, but it all passed over without a single drop of rain. Evidently, a few miles away the rain was torrential. Already it is hot and sunny again at 7-53 AM.

-pops-
My lawn is already recovering after this morning's torrential storms - more coming now.Very dispirited that the warmth and general atmospheric unpleasantness hasn't dissipated like it normally does after thunder. Still as hot and muggy but with clouds instead of sun.Yes, I know I'm moaning and, having worked in the South of France for many years, I have become used to hot weather but there it's hot and dry not hot and humid like in the UK (or New York). andsome
We have waited patiently all day for the promised storms. At present we are getting an odd droplet here and there, probably at the rate of a gallon per acre per annum.
doug
We had a brief shower yesterday and you know you could smell that wonderful aroma of fresh air. Didn't last long!
andsome
Still waiting round here. Thunderstorms promised yet again today. What a waste of money the Met Office is.

Thos
We are stll waiting for the rain here too, in spite of the fact that a boy was reportedly killed by an electrical storm at Croyden, about 8 or 10 miles from here.Even today, forecast to be wet, it is a bright, fresh day. Fortunately it is about 6 to 8 degrees cooler and it is easier to sleep at nights.Thos.
gordythegouge
Ye Gods,if you lived in the NE of Scotland?????? Global warming? Aye......we've read about it.......and that's about all!! They used to say "Never shed a cloot till May is oot". Well it's getting to the stage when we don't shed a cloot at all!! And it's getting whiffy let me tell you...........that reminds me.......must get out the old tin bath in front of the roaring fire for the annual rinse and sluice....it's nearly the middle of July, so I'll maybe not have to break too thick a skin of ice from the well in the morning!! Jings it''l be grand to get this wooly jumper off, the cardigan underneath will be needing a wee wash no doubt...although the thermal vest will probly be all right for another year...or two!As they say........catch my drift? andsome
Evidently while we were away we had a very small amount of rain one night. At long long last however today we have had a decent fall. About half an hour this morning of quite heavy rain, and about an hour this afternoon of reasonably heavy rain. It has been sufficient to three quarters fill a large water butt. artist
We had a few drops at 3am along with the electic storm - sent hubby off to unplug the computer. :P This afternoon it bucketted out of the sky for about 20 mins - slight rumbles in the distance - Very hot again now though.Nice for all the millions arriving here for their hols............. :)
catgate
We have just had a thunder storm of major proportions, accompanied by SERIOUS rain. The first we have seen in the York area for about a month or maybe more. Very welcome. Everywhere was beginning to look like the Gobi desert. Watchful
We've been waiting all afternoon for the forecasted storms around Manchester which never arrived! Not complaining but we could have done with the rain :(
andsome
Two water butts almost full now. The air feels very much fresher thank goodness. I thought the rains had deserted us for ever.
Thos
Some electrical storms a fair way off and very little rain yet in the South-East. Looks like another hot day brewing up today.Thos.
