Ooge
Thanks for all of those HUGE pictures and flashy animations every other member seems to love, this forum looks like a children playground and - you just can't help it - cannot be taken seriously. There are a million galleries out there in the web if we'd like to see pictures or flash clips, you really do not need them to be seen or heard. It's only irritating.Someone could reply to this: why don't I simply turn off the pictures from my settings? And I's answer: I'd like to see members personal avatars (except animations unless they're made with good taste), because it helps to identify other users quickly. But those large pictures with evertyhing flashing around...Here's a suggestion for the admin(s): Make a selection for the Profile Control Panel that allows you to turn off all the other pictures (includind flash animations etc.) except the avatars (and smilies). Thank You!

-pops-
This forum has been running for a number of years, has over 5,000 registered members and nobody has ever made a complaint like yours before. This makes me think that it is you that has the problem, not Windows Forum.Tell you what, why not start your own forum and you will then be able to control the members exactly as you would wish. Perhaps with a whip in one hand and a gun in the other. Woe betide anyone who steps out of line there.

Ooge
If you don't have anything constructive to offer, you would be best to go away.Oh but I do. I have a great experience with Windows, but it's not very comforting if one can't even make a suggestions to make this world a better place without making you go nuts. If people here really are this narrow-minded, I'll definitely go away.I hope everyone here doesn't think the way you do - you must be the ki(n)ds that'll argue for hours whether or not Windows is better than Linux.Perhaps with a whip in one hand and a gun in the other. Thos
Infants.Seriously, Ooge, this is a collection of forums in many of which you can offer your expertise of Windows and other computer related matters. There is also a recreational aspect where you can have some fun and banter. For my part, I came here as a novice in computer matters and have learnt and am learning a great deat, not the least of which has been how to create animations and play around with these flashy pictures. So join in show us a few things.Best wishes,Thos. I for one will take NO further part in any replies to any threads that he/she/it starts. Ignoring he/she/it is probably the best action possible. It amazes me how new ideas or suggestions get shot down with this kind of fierce anger. But I think I'll hang around just a little bit longer and see if this is a place worth to keep an eye on.And to "andsome": It's unpleasant to know that your opinions aren't shared with everyone else, isn't it? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I am a bit astonished about the harsh reactions to this rather harmless suggestion (that I actually agree with). This is usually quite a friendly place, so let's close this thread and start anew.
dadyassa
If you look before you leap, you will notice that the only "infantile" stuff as you put it is on the LOUNGE FORUM which is a chillout area as the title suggests. If you dont like chilling out then dont visit the lounge just visist the other parts.Your first post, I think you must agree sounds like it was written by a TROLL.Maybe it would have come over better if you had introduced yourself and then after a while criticise the forum about what you dont like. What would your reaction have been if you had been the webmaster and someone had posted similar on your site ?If you are not a troll then stay and help people with your expertise, but let us play in our lounge ;) Am I allowed a wink ?My avatar animation is not too infantile for you is it, I am speading love and kisses to everybody. catgate
I am left wondering about the mental state of someone who comes in, looks round, does not like what he sees and tries to reorganise things to his liking, on the basis that he knows better than those who have been here a while.I was not aware that our little cherub or Dubya had any relatived in the frozen tundra. Ooge
Hello again, everyone. No, I'm not against flashy stuff, but when it fills the screen the overall view isn't pleasant anymore. That's why we have adblockers and popup killers, unfortunately they won't work within threads generally. In my line of work (I'm a web designer / programmer) we have to deal with these kind of things, learning what to avoid and why, and the first impression (of the site) is everything. And I don't need to be a long-term member to notice whether or not everything is flickering.Yet still, I cannot understand why this subject is so sensitive for some members. Where would we be if no one ever questioned anything? Just tried to create a constructive conversation about the subject but better leave it as it is.If you treat all of your newcomers like the way you treated me, shame on you. doug
Just to put my 2 penn'orth in, my reading of this thread is that everyone is implying that you are entitled to your opinions and technical expertise - you may have a point regarding large animations and will be considered by the staff ( mods and admin) to see if the guidelines need amending. However, the manner in which you have raised this issue has upset quite a few people and that is what they are objecting to. Sorry not well phrased. If this thread continues to be an issue it will be locked/hidden/removed. As long as you are a member you can always raise any issue with the staff by PM'ing any of them via the staff list. djohn
Hello Ooge and welcome to our forum. I'm sorry you don't like the animations we use but we do like them and have been using them for some years now without complaint as pops as already said. I do think you have a valid point, and I have no problems with you expressing it, but I do think you jumped in a bit too quickly without looking round the rest of the forum, or checking on previous post. Its usually a little difficult for a new member to make their first post even though we do all we can to make new members welcome, but I can see why our members have closed ranks and defended the forum and the actions of its members. Again as its already been pointed out to you, it may have been better to introduce yourself to the members first, get the feel of the forum then make your suggestions which we are always ready to listen to.I think it is in your best interest to step back a little, take a breath and have a look round the forum to see just how much help we do give to people who come here with serious problems then judge us from that and not the flash images that our members enjoy using. Please stick around, continue to post and join in with helping others, having a bit of fun at the same time. While your having a breather to think this over I think it only fair to point out I will not allow you to insult our staff or long standing members who work hard to help others, so please refrain from doing so. If you are unable to follow this advice I will take whatever action is required to stop you from doing so. . :)
