At the time, and in the sort of hippy society we were part of, it wasn't the "thing" to marry. Even now we have doubts on the marriage concept and neither of us want it.We've both had separate, successful professional careers (me a chemist, she a paediatrician), we've brought up two offspring who are now very successful in their particular field and we've been happily together much, much longer than the majority of our colleagues, friends and acquaintances who have taken the marriage vows. My Mum & Dad reached their 70th and I organised a telegram from the Queen (easily done, the Lord Chamberlain's Office was very helpful) and it meant the world to them.Thos.
