Perhaps we could organise our own special games for them? We could have hard standing, long standing, high standing, relay standing, mixed pairs sychronised standing, Marathon sitting, five a side underwater sitting and even a pentathlay (with extra points for double underhand back flockflicks).

Unlike you chaps - I believe the government have a clear responsibility to do all they can about the rapid growth in obesity - irrespective of the fact that they have many fatties in their midst.

We have reached a point where 30% of our people are obese - a clear health hazard and a burden on our creaking health service. This will ultimately result in the health service having to refuse free treatment to people who suffer from self imposed medical conditions caused by over-eating, smoking, hazardous sports etc. Otherwise it is an unfair tax burden on those who take care of themselves and look after themselves.

Despite people whinging to the contrary - putting on weight is always the result of consuming more energy than you expend - it is a simple energy balance. I have no doubt that if we backed off on the nanny state and ensured that people are made responsible for their well being - the obese trend could be reversed.

I have no objection to people making themselves fat, or smoking, or drinking to excess or taking part in hazardous sports etc - provided they are forced to pay for the inevitable consequences.

I am currently devising a 'people gauge' through which everyone will have to pass in order to be allowed to continue living in U.K. I shall sell this to the Government via the PC lobby (which I am also designing, and which will have stained glass windows).

My gauge will measure body mass v. height, foot size, sexual proclivities, actual height, presence and size of Islamic beard, aversion to Britishthings, size of wallet, willingness to contribute to the party, depletion of neurones and halitosis.

I have no objection at all to the government pointing out the problems of obesity or any other problem come to that. They should however get their own house in order.

That is my view as well.

Another example of government hypocrisy is when John Prescott drives around in a jaguar when the meetings that he attends are only a few minutes walk.

If he walked to these meetings instead of driving around everywhere, then perhaps he could lose some weight :P

Prescott is frightened of walking because he normally has eggs thrown at him and it ends up with fisticuffs. :D

I am just a little bit confused here. Are the fat people in the Government who advocate that the man in the street should lose some weight part of the "PC Brigade" or are the PC ones the ones who decry the nanny state?

My own stance squares with AlanHo posted earlier.

Well all this goes to show that our little cherub has succeded with part of his equality nonsense. He has proved, quite conclusively, over the last couple of years, that female ministers can be just as bunglingly inept and facile as any male minister, including Prezzer.

Basically.....it's all mince.......just how are they going to enforce any sort of healthy eating/fitness regime? All their brochures and posters will end up as ...........fish and chip wrapping paper!!! Education is definitely the answer...but they've missed the boat with several generations......the cat's out of the bag......and it's headed for the nearest fastfood takeaway!! :(
