For example, my present car is a Fiesta Ghia 1.4. She is a lovely vehicle (reliable, but a little bit boring) ... only done 10.5k miles in 3 years. Before I reach my dotage, I really, really, really want a fun car!! I want something to 'pose' in during the summer months. B) So, now that I have "bared my all", what is your's? catgate Posted January 28, 2007 Report Share Posted January 28, 2007 Do avoid Mercedes. They were very good until a few years ago. Then Chrysler became involved and the quality is now awful. I have a turbo diesel automatic estate. In the last twelve months I have had to have a new gearbox, a new turbo and new front and rear wiper mechanisms and motors. It is a super car when it is running, a delight to drive, but it does like to see the inside of a workshop. The first Merc I had was a 190D. That one was second hand when I got it, and it had done over 300,000 miles by the time I parted with it. All it ever needed was servicing and tyres (plus liquid refreshment). My current one has only done just over a third of that and it is the last Mercedes I shall ever buy.My wife's brother bought a new CS 530 coupe last year. He had only had it a few months when the roof refused to slide back. It went into the dealers to be "repaired" three times over a six month period, and it still kept going faulty. It refused to function whilst he and his wife were in Germany, (she comes from Stuttgart and they were visiting her parents). So being in Stuttgart he took it to the factory, where they repaired it. Bought one and had a new one every two years until the model got old, out-of-date and technological advances made other cars much better. My love was the Capri.Now fantasies. I haven't a personal fantasy any more. I know it is boring but I suppose, now my two sons are settled and comfortable, I would like my 5 granddaughters to have a good start in life with their education (the two eldest are out of Uni now), boyfriends (already one is married, another well on the way to being so) and their futures to be free of the perils of nuclear war.Thos. That was in the early 70's I think. The other car which I thought I might fancy, is the BMW Z3? (not sure of the model). I had a BMW for 13 years from new, and then got the previously mentioned 190D merc. I also had a R100RT BMW motorcycle for twenty years. I gave it to a nephew and he is still running it.
