-pops- Posted January 30, 2007 Report Share Posted January 30, 2007 Well, folks, today is the day that Vista is launched to the public.Previous versions (Windows 95, 98, ME and especially XP) have all been launched to a great fanfare of publicity with announcements and articles being carried on all the major television networks, radio, Teletext, newspapers et cetera.What does Vista get? A spot on a satellite delivered home shopping channel (QVC). So I've been told.Is this an indicator of the projected popularity of Vista? Tankus Posted January 30, 2007 Report Share Posted January 30, 2007 I wont bother until I get a new comp ....although over the next few months there will be some good deals on XP preloaded computers , and after march 31st when the free vista upgrade to XP new-buyers , there will be some serious discounts on remaining unsold stock .....Im sort of tempted . At least till Vista gets some public use under its belt and hardware specs go up. I would find it very difficult to justify spending that sort of money just to get the latest. My computer does all that I want, as fast as I want. The only reason for scrapping it will be when it is playing up too badly to want to carry on with it. I'm afraid that I don't subscribe to the throw away society. -pops- Posted January 31, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2007 I was due to build two XP's and a Vista machine for my son's business (just so he could claim that the company uses the latest technology) but, he's seen that Vista doesn't appear to offer much advantage to anything he does, workwise, so he's booked three replacement XP machines from me instead.Paraphrasing his description "it's all urine and strong breezes, a triumph of style and little new content of importance to a business user".Gates himself said: "Windows Vista sets the stage for the multimedia hub the PC is set to become in the future." Damo Posted February 2, 2007 Report Share Posted February 2, 2007 I bought a new wide screen laptop yesterday, which came with Vista Home Premium Edition, 24 hours of playing around with it and have to say I like it - but if it didn't come bundled with the laptop there is no way I could justify paying for it as a standalone or an upgrade, for the home user (as far as I can see) it offers nothing substantially different to XP - at least not that i've found yet anyway. Still......it looks pretty! :DI also had some problems with my thompson speedtouch modem under it, the compatibility mode seems to have sorted it out, but connecting is still a bit hit and miss.
