If several sites are slow [assuming our members visit more than just this site] then it would point to a local problem. The local problem is a bit general so we can say it's an ISP problem or a users computer is at fault. I would be more than happy to say it's an ISP problem providing of course that the user has not made any changes to their PC. If it is an ISP problem then the usual place to visit would the ISP's status page assuming they have one of course. This page would more than likely explain any problems although I think most of the these pages are a bit vauge.Now let's say that every other website is running fine, but this site is a little slow. I'd be more than happy to say that this site was experiencing some problems. The thing is we know this and a quick search on this site would reveal a few threads about shared hosting.The amount of times that people have posted about the site slowness [when other sites are running fine] is a bit on the "why do I bother" side. We've explained that we are on shared hosting and what this means in terms of cost and [what our users want] site performance. There is nothing that can be done to solve a site slowness issue as we are on shared hosting. Of course site slowness does not mean that it is because of shared hosting, it could due to the way forum processes are running, maybe an undiscovered bug somewhere....and we are the unlucky one experiencing the effects. But as I find it usually passes after a few minutes.For this site at least slowness can be put down to shared hosting [sometimes fast, sometimes slow] and when such issues are posted in Forum Related Issues to me at least it would imply it's OUR problem.But for some reason I find myself repeating; myself; when site slowness appears.But one for good luck as they say:There is nothing that can be done [without spending money] to improve the speed of WF. With shared hosting speed is dependant on overall server load. If another site on the server that we share with is getting high traffic then it will effect us and unfortunatley there is nothing that can be done... :( If you do find this site is running slow then don't worry It will pass and there are more important things to the fastness [of lack off] of this site.Amen. I have many years of hands-on user experience within the workplace, with a good basic knowledge, but not technical. So, if I occasionally ask what might seem to the more enlightened, a dumb sort of question, then you will have to forgive me.
