Temperatures will plunge to minus 4C. News release16 March 2007 Snow and ice forecast for early next week - updateA marked change to very cold weather for later this weekend is still forecast by the Met Office. Strong Arctic winds will bring a sharp drop in temperature and a risk of snow and ice to some areas of the UK into next week.The snow is most likely to affect northern and exposed western and eastern parts of the UK, with up to 3 cm possible at low levels. Upland areas could see up to 15 cm of snow, especially at night-time. Typical daytime temperatures in the south will be 7 °C by Monday, with around 4 °C in the north, with widespread sharp frosts by night.Bob Wilderspin, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: "Exposed places in the north and west will see the heaviest snow showers at first, with eastern areas becoming more at risk by Wednesday. Overnight, ice will be an additional hazard in the affected areas."Many central and inland areas will avoid the worst of the snow showers, with overnight frosts being the main feature of the weather here. The wholesaler sent the wrong part to the heating engineer, and we have to wait for another replacement. We are managing with a gas fire and electric convection heater. I'm sure dadyassa will be able to confirm the current conditions.It's my birthday whilst we're away, so when I'm sitting outside on the balcony looking at the fabulous view, with a glass of very cool Chablis in hand, I will definitely have all of you in mind. Unfortunately, I don't have immediate access to a landline & PC, but I will be thinking about you.....This is a sample of where were are going and what the view will be like. ..............This is a view taken in Gibralta as we ascended the lift on the Rock on a previous visit................... The 'lift' was a funicular type of ascent. I must admit that I did not like the 'Barbary apes'; sorry to say, not my kind of being. I see that it is on 29th March, which the same birthdate as my number 4 (in age) granddaughter, Laura. We just heard 20 minutes ago that she had been taken ill during last night and taken to Basilden Hospital to have her appendix removed shortly.Thos. I had trouble. For years I tried to play the violin. But I gave it all up when someone told me it was a piano and I never would get it under my chin. Thos Posted March 17, 2007 Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 Thank you all for your good wishes. Laura is now minus her appendix and is fine, though still drowsy. She was operated on about 4pm and in the recovery room until about 7.30. When her dad got home he rang us to let us know she was back in the ward and her mother is staying at the hospital with her tonight. Laura has never lasted so long without food and the first thing she said was "I'm hungry"All being well she may be discharged tomorrow or Monday.So it is off to bed for us. Thos Posted March 18, 2007 Report Share Posted March 18, 2007 The latest we have this morning is that the operation was not as straightforward as expected. The appendix problem was advanced, very swollen and pus was surrounding the area. The senior surgeon was called and he dealt with it. So she will be staying in a few days. She has had a drink and is a bit tearful but is being given morphine, we understand, for the pain.Thanks again for all your kind thoughts.
