AlanHo
See hereWhoever recommended this man for an honour after the previous furore should be sacked with ignimony. What has the guy done for this Country to deserve it ? - other than demonstrate unrivalled expertise in arrogance, superiority, muslim baiting, provocation etc.It should have been obvious to even the village idiot that to bestow a knighthood on him would provoke understandable anger in the muslim world. I do not subscribe to the threats emenating from there - either the first round or now - but it was a monstrous mistake to open old sores so flagrantly. -pops-
He's not even British. He was born in India and lives in the USA. What's the justification for this outmoded recognition of his "achievements"?
catgate
It is all part of Tony's V shaped parting smile to Gordon.I would like to have been listening to the conversations that he has had with other WORLD LEADERS on his farewell tour (the big girls blouse). I'll bet he did some muck spreading.
andsome
The honours system is feudal to say the least and should be scrapped altogether. This is another fine mess we are in thanks to the government.

Watchful
I too think this was a knighthood too far......along with lots of others in the past.He may have been a prolific or even a good writer but so what? I have never read any of his as it's not my thing and I doubt if many others have either. The system in its present form should be scrapped and replaced by gongs for extraordinary people doing good things far beyond their call of duty and preferably without receiving payment for them.....so there! catgate
The thing that is puzzling me is this. If our little cherub does turn Catholic (to more readily gain forgiveness for his sins) he will not be able to wear a night hood himself will he? rong
You mean he will have to go to bed without a hat.

I still don't see the need for any sort of honours system at all. Surely the money that these footballers, cricketers, athletes broadcasters etc etc get should be sufficient reward. Sebastian Coe was an excellent athlete, and did very well for himself out of it, and now for some reason known only to the powers that be, he is an UNELECTED member of the upper chamber of government. It would never be possible to honour all the quiet background hero's and heroin's, so why pick any out at all?
Watchful
That would suit me and probably all the unsung heros and heroines who wouldn't want one anyway B)
