You seen Sicko?

CNN Gets Blitzed by Michael Moore  Moore has a lot to say, I like it. I don't know what is true, but still...

An Open Letter to CNN from Michael Moore

As you are from the USA I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this [if any] ?

I pay about $5,000/year for full medical coverage for my family. My daughter will soon be off the plan when she graduates from college at the end of Fall quarter. My son's coverage will be picked up by the US Government once he ships out to US Marine Corp. boot camp next month.

Over my lifetime I have not had any problems with my healthcare. Neither have my family and friends. Folks who cannot afford medical insurance are not turned away at hospitals and get their treatments for free via the US taxpayers. We are not perfect but things are pretty good over here. B)

Moore is only happy when he is whining or eating (something he is obviously good at  ).

Hate to disagree Deuces but I'm going to.

I have no health coverage. I am disabled and cannot work. I was on our State health care that cost me $9.00 per month for the premium.

I receive Long term disability payments of $1,1167.39 per month before taxes....

Yes I have to pay taxes on my disability benefits, so my actual monthly income is $1,069.39

because I have the least amount of tax taken out so I can survive.

Then at the end of the year I pay the $600.00 I owe State from the refund I get from Federal.

And if I don't get enough back from Fed I go without whatever I have to so I can pay the State taxes.

That income puts me $38.00 over the max income to get the State health care.

So now I'm out of luck.

Luckily for me, my doctors group have a plan called Bridge assistance for low income people who can't afford health coverage. So I get to see them for free. They DO NOT get paid for their services to me and I feel really bad about that so I only go when I absolutely have to.

I also take 3 medications that would cost me almost $100.00 per month.

The drug companies give them to me for free because I am low income. Every year when I reapply they Remind Me that this is not going to last forever.

I am very grateful for the assistance and should they decide to stop giving them to me I will have to go without.

I am from Canada and I had health care available to me.

The US system SUCKS!!!

This country should be ashamed that there are MILLIONS of people worse off than me who have no way to get any coverage at all.

Try living on $1,069.39 per month when your rent is $610. (and that's really low for where I live) plus utilities and auto insurance and food and gas etc. etc....

It is a challenge to say the least.

There must be a Universal Health Care system started in this country. NOT Health INSURANCE.

The Insurance companies must be removed from the equation.

And Michael Moore has done more to bring the TRUTH out on some very important issues than anyone in this country.

You can dislike him, that's your right but don't bad mouth him just because he speaks the truth and you don't like it.

Ok end rant.

Sorry I get a little upset when people who never have to think about what it's like to be POOR start criticizing someone who's trying to point out that there a people like me out here and they need help.

I worked for 40 years and paid my taxes. I did not ask to be injured or to become disabled but I did and I am and I get to deal with it every day.

So Please excuse me for yelling but I'm sick of people who stick their heads in the sand and pretend people like me don't exsist or hope that if they ignore us the problems will just go away.

They won't so deal with it.

Not allot different to this country if your over about 60, if your over 70 you get put on such a long waiting list for any treatment that you could well have died before you get it (that's probably the idea)

'Er indoors has long been promissed a trial on a new drug for arthritis when the trial is due to start. The time has now come, and it is due to start late this month. She has now been told that the waiting list is three months, so she cannot go on either the trial or the waiting list. In other words, she is on a waiting list to get onto the waiting list. The same is true for a specialist to look at her poor hands. I have never seen a pair so badly deformed as hers are now. She has been promissed an interview with him for the last two years, but is still waiting. She telephoned a few days ago and was told that the waiting list was alreday three months, so she could not go onto it at present. THANK YOU LABOUR.

Well said. this sounds much more like the US we read about.

Yes andsome, Michael goes into that in the film.

Oh and I just read that the Republicans in our Senate are blocking a vote that would increase health care coverage for millions of children in this country.

Apparently they don't think the children who's families are either unemployed due to corporations outsourcing our jobs or who work 2 and 3 jobs just to survive and cannot afford health care, should be helped by the very government their taxes pay for.

Disgusting, just disgusting.

:uhm: How can the Republicans block a vote when the Dems control both House and Senate?

Can you provide a link to your claim?

Sorry, but the rest of your post is pure nonsense.

The Haves and Have nots spring to mind with this posting.

If you are referring to me...tell me.

Some background. I have worked since age 11 (delivering newspapers at that age). I came from a lower middle class family with 5 kids. We never took vacations. My father died when I was 19.

I collected garbage, washed dishes, pumped gas and worked in a warehouse....alll while putting myself through college. I also took out a student loan that was finally paid off (by me) when I was 30 years old.

My first real job after graduating from college paid a whopping $8,000/year (1974). I climbed the ladder by putting in long hours and working hard, sometimes being on the road and away from my family for 2 full weeks.

We are now financially stable and I will be retiring at the age of 59 in 21 months, perhaps in a house on an inland lake in North Carolina.

I am not ashamed of what I have accomplished, including raising 2 intelligent kids who also know the value of a buck and who also worked starting at the age of 15.

I did it on my own and never asked for any handouts. Never. I have always been generous to folks in need and charitable organizations. I pay more than my share of taxes but do not complain doing so.

Don't make generalization when you don't have a clue about what the *haves* may have had to go through and what the *have not* maybe failed to do in their lives.

No DW I was not referring to you personally.

It just came to mind reading through the threads that in a lot of countries, Britain included, Governments spend Billions on the War Machine, line their own bank accounts and things like Britain's stupid Dome down in London (£650,000,000 if memory serves) when there are other things like the people that have nothing go on having nothing and people in need of such things as the National Health Service have to go on suffering because the Hospitals haven't got the funding.

Again DW nothing personal. I like you and millions of others have worked all my life to get to a descent standard of living.

Sorry for going off on you. I have sympathy for folks in need, but not when they set their own table, such as by dropping out of high school for no other reason than to hang out on the streets.

One last note regarding the uninsured. I wonder exactly how many do so by choice..........with them having the money but deciding to spend it elsewhere. I would guess a fairly high number, especially those in their 20's and 30's and without a family of their own.

I have a card, with my picture on it. I go into the Doctor's office, swipe my card, and the Doctor takes a look. I never see a bill, unless I have to buy medication, which (if I had any) would be covered by insurance.

I'm not sure exactly how the American or UK system works, but I like Canada's just fine. I am sure it is very similar, but through a private company in the US, rather than the government.

In the UK we pay for our National Health and Pensions weekly, or monthly if you are on a salary. We call it PAYE over here which stand for Pay As You Earn. This is deducted along with the Income Tax. We can walk into any Doctors surgery or Hospital in the UK and give them out National Insurance number and be seen. The only other thing we have to pay for are our prescriptions.

Sorry, but the rest of your post is pure nonsense.

Well actually, it's this little thing called a filibuster, and the Republicans have used it to block almost every bill the Dems have brought to the senate floor.

Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Minority leader has bragged about them doing so and said they plan to do it with every bill. They are intentionally obstructing the passage of these bills.

Here's a link to some information:

And here's a link to a 72kb pdf that shows all the bills they are blocking:

That's all I'm going to say re: politics.

I was not referring to you personally DW just expressing my experiences so as far as this thread is concerned my first post stands.

You can disagree all you want, that doesn't change the facts.

Regarding people who choose not to have health care so they can spend their money on other things, there may well be some who do that.

What I am talking about are the millions of people in this country who cannot afford health insurance, and there are millions of us.

You can blame it on whomever and whatever you want but as I said, that doesn't change the facts.

And if you want the facts, I suggest you watch the movie. It's full of them. :flowers:

You provided links to stuff put out by extreme left groups. Please provide a government link to the actual bill and the philibuster attempt. Heck, I would even accept CNN. Your sources show too much bias to be credibile.

No, it is full of s*#t. Even CNN agrees and they are Moores pal.

What does a prescription cost these days, been a while since I've had anything prescribed.

Well, DW, looks like I owe you an apology. Sorry I got this one wrong.

Seems this is one bill the Repubs are not going to filibuster.

However, the President is going to veto the bill instead! :0

Here's a link to the Washington Post:

and if that's not far enought Right for you, here's one from the New York Times:

and here it is in the Presidents own words:

That good enough for ya?

Oh and Re: CNN, they apologized to Mike and have said they are wrong in at least 2 of their stats and that all of the Stats in the movie are correct.

I don't have a link to that one but I'm sure if you Google CNN you should be able to find it. :flowers:

President Bush has attacked the proposals as big-government attempts to enlarge the federal role in health care, saying they would siphon choice away from individuals and reduce private insurance coverage for some children. He has proposed about $5 billion in new funding for children's health insurance over five years, for a total of $30 billion -- an amount that the Congressional Budget Office says would be too little to keep covering even just the number of children enrolled in the program now.

House Democrats, meanwhile, have sought an even bigger increase: $50 billion, for a total of $75 billion in funding over five years. It would be paid for, at least in part, by trimming payments to private Medicare plans for seniors.

So the fact is they are against raising the spending (they agree to a $5 billion INCREASE in funding).

Glad we got our facts right. B)

Folks are generally tired of paying for capable folks sucking off the teets of the government when they may be capable of getting off their arse and getting a job or two. I am not questioning your case..........I am questioning those who are taking advantage of our government programs (paid by tax payers) when they are quite capable of working.

Everyone generally decides the direction their life will take based on their ambition/drive and education. THEY made that decision.

Exception: Things that cannot be controlled include disabilities (as with yours and mine.........yes, I am technically disabled and continue to work) and losing a job due to downsizing. I have no problem paying for their needs. The freeloaders are the ones who overload the system and cause our taxes to continue to rise every year.

Enough said. Good luck with your medical condition. Perhaps you can earn some extra income from some things that can be done over the internet. :flowers:
