I'm going again......

Took G'son to South Shields park this afternoon which included a ride on the little train. Managed to bag a carriage right behind the engine. We had just started and he complained that he didn't like it, the smell of the smoke was terrible. There's me thinking what wonderful nostalgia and all. He was much happier digging in the sand pit and just waving to the train each time it came past. Moral of this is if you don't like the smoke go and bury your head in the sand!

Ah! the nostalgia of it all. I remember well the Flying Scotsman coming through Penshaw station when it was still the main line between Kings Cross and Edinburgh before they diverted the line to run direct from Durham to Gateshead then into Newcastle Station. Those were the day's. That's when it used to slow down hard to take the Victoria Bridge over the Wear. Doug will know that bridge, it's not far from him. :D

We still have a short length of active steam railway run by the volunteers of the East Lancs Railway which is used by lots of grandparents and youngsters.

They run a Santa one at Christmas.

It is alive and well around here but not alas going all the way to Devon.

A little back-hander to the driver and fireman could work wonders for you Pushkin.

Nearby Chase Water park still runs a steam train with rides for the family. It is a stretch of old track used to transport coal to the local canals many years ago. They also have Santa Christmas trips. this is also run by enthusiasts. Grown men playing train drivers. :D :D :D

I see the traffic in Devon is moving better again now.

You're SO nasty to me!

Had a great week sun every day. Didn't do a lot - just lazed in the sun.

Went to Exmouth on the ferry from Starcross. Then the train along the coast to Paignton. Also went to Castle Drogo again.

The trouble with really liking Devon is that we go often and have now seen most of the sights. It's a beautiful place second only to Dorset..........
