Pity the North

To day we went into Doug country to look at a camper van. It is less than 80 miles from us as the crow flies but on our journeys we try to avoid places like the A1 and the M1 etc. and as a result it is quite a few years since we went up (or down) the A1.

One of our "markers" for turnings was "the second slip road past the Angel of the North". I had seen the hideous monstrosity on pictures but not "in the metal". I was not really prepared for the monstrousness of it.

Did the man who designed it get an award or was he, as he should have been, sectioned under the mental health act?

There is no doubt it is symbolic, and I know of what.

!!!!??? After the way you dig at me and my caravan.................

I prefer to be behind a camper rather than a caravan. :D

Some are bigger than caravans and the drivers of them generally only 'part timers' so the driving is pretty bad...............

I'm so glad I'm not the only one to consider the Angel of The North to be a hideous monstrosity. :0

After thinking about it for a little while I have come to the conclusion that it is a a creation that embodies and displays the true artistic, cultural and moral bankruptcy of modern (or moron) Briton. It is the Emperor's clothes in metal. It ranks alongside Gormley the gormless, pickled embryos, healthy living, honest government init like.
