Panarchy Posted December 3, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 3, 2007 I have to say - this tthread has squashed any thoughts I had of building my own! :DArtist, it is not so difficult to do, this thread is covering all the angles, such things as case connections to the motherboard, which once you have done it seems easy, but he is covering all bases before he fires it up.He is putting a lot of expensive equipment together and does not want to wreck anything.But I have to agree with a few of the other posters on this forum it would not do him any harm to read the manuals that came with the parts.Okay! And, I am doing this very slowly, by artist, I suggest you try this yourself, as it can be very educational (before doing this I didn't know what a heatsink is, what molex meant, how to put everything else together or what a CPU looks like!)It can be exciting... He has asked question after question in this and several other threads, and also on other forums. He has been offered a lot of good advice, and on occasions has argued against it. We got it the first time you said it. Panarchy Posted December 3, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 3, 2007 you need to work on your cable management! there is no way that your viceo card will fit in there!i would suggest removing the bottom fan by the psu. you dont need that, the purpose of that is for cooling hard drvesa that you put down there which there are none. so just run the cables over into that chamber and up.Do you think this is a good idea? I have just taken out that fan, but I haven't taken the cables out and rethreaded them through the other 'port'.Good idea? Alan2273 Posted December 3, 2007 Report Share Posted December 3, 2007 Cable management is a vital part of building a computer, loads of cables going everywhere will restict airflow around the computer.Those that you know you will not be using, tie them up in a bunch with a cable tie and leave them in the space where you took the bottom fan out, then try and route the rest of your cables neatly and tie them up as well. I now realise why he has not had the time to RTFM's - he has had all these forums to read up on, pages and pages and pages and pages of posts.Fortunately there are still a few hardy and patient souls left on forums to provide some help - let us hope they are still there when the beast is fired up and he hears the sound of warning beeps - or even worse - the smell of toasted electronics. I truly hope not - he is building a fairly high spec machine and as a self confessed beginner has been brave to try it. AlanHo Posted December 4, 2007 Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 Thanks Boris - it all makes fascinating reading.If people take the time to read through the various forum threads to which we have provided links between us - especially the MSFN forum - you can see why peoples patience and understanding have been exhausted. Reading the other forums makes for entertaining and informative reading. Some of us have been criticised here for being critical of panarchy about his endless questions, reluctance to RTFM's and refusal to take advice. It was argued that panarchy is only a child and should not be made fun of - but the reality is that he has been making fun of us all by his multi posting on several forums and his behaviour. Only a kangaroo could be impressed by the way he jumps about..... There is every possibility that he will need advice if and when he fires up the beast and carries out his intent to update the BIOS (against the advice of some experts) together with installing 4 separate operating systems, drivers and all his software. I sincerely hope that there will still be people around in the mood to help him.I hope that the mods here have more patience than those at the MSFN forum (who closed his thread down). After all that we have been through so far - it would be sad to close our thread and thereby not see how the epic saga ends - hopefully like other fairy stories - they all lived happily ever after..................... trackrat Posted December 4, 2007 Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 After reading your thread Alan ho, I concur that he is heading for trouble if he tries to update the BIOS, the slightest mistake, a power cut, selecting the wrong BIOS update and his motherboard will be an expensive piece of junk.Putting 3 or 4 operating systems on is not that difficult provided you put them on in the right order. If I do get round to needing a new computer one day, it will probably be a self build one, but you can all rest assured that a couple or three questions will probably suffice, and the advice will be listened to. I was quite happy to contribute to the monitor question, and thank goodness that appears to have been settled in a sensible time.Just a suggestion. Isn't it about time the staff closed this thread?
