XP now extended to May 09.Seems also Dell has upped their charge for having XP instead of Vista in new ones to $150 I bought Dell last time to get XP as didn't want Vista but didn't know I paid a premium!Worth it though.Seems that Vista is a poor relation these days and many people are paying the premium to change over to XP on their new computers. Also the bit re Windows Defender deleting programs it considers to be not right - well talk about having a psy right in your own back yard - glad I got rid of it PDQ as it was no good and anyway took andsome's advice way back and put in Super Anti spyware and never looked back along with Spybot. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, a very large minority of people have had problems with it, especially if they use pre-Vista software. For me, that's enough to give it a miss & to wait & see what Windows 7 shapes up like. Last week I installed a new hard drive, copied my current system over to it (after cleaning of anything suspect or potentially so) and it's almost like new. This is because MS will soon be stopping retailers from selling them.Then if Windows 7 is no good you always have XP to fall back on. XP installation disks from Dell & Compaq and others are special versions which usually only work on the machine that they come with. So normally you can't transfer that XP to another machine. You need to have a genuine Windows disk with the approprite license number & hologram.Also don't count on being able to buy a second hand one later, as most of these are not genuine which means you wo't be able to update them. I asked because I have found last week or so that some programs blink a bit - I say blink - but shaky as if power is not quite right and you get a bit of a dip in a light bulb sort of thing - if you follow my female description Noticed it when I downloaded new version of Webshots. Which I use for my screen and desk top wallpapers - dogs mainly. Just now when I opened FF it asked if it was my default browser for some reason - so checked with Winpatrol to see if it was working and it too blinked a bit. Could be our power but it is upgraded but building down the road so who knows or maybe Telstra as they are upgrading the exchange to ADSL2 I am told - who knows?
