I enjoy playing on-line scrabble. :D

I also began researching my family tree some time ago, although I have not done much with it recently - just for a change of activity for a while.

Reading has always been one of my hobbies.

My favourite style is historical fiction, based on fact (e.g. the monarchy). I find the 17th/18th centuries interesting.

Of course, as you can see, I like to participate in forums.... WF being one of them. ;)

Trying to stay alive is my main hobby :)

Apart from that, I was lucky enough to enjoy the work I did in my professional life and I continue to dabble in the same kind of research. This is proving to be very successful - I have sold one patent and I am negotiating the sale/license of another at the moment.

I play crown green bowls as many already know. This year I have been appointed as captain of the Sunday morning charity league team. I play for three evening teams too, so spend some time practising. :D

I also read a lot, and help 'Er indoors in the garden. :D

Do you know C.J. Sansom's historical novel series set during the reign of Henry VIII? Very interesting! Four books, so far: Dissolution (2003), Dark Fire (2004), Sovereign (2006), Revelation (2008).

I'm afraid that some would not approve of my choice of reading matter. I like Stephen King, James Herbert, Ann Rice, Dean Koontz etc. :D

My life would be empty without books! I like crime novels, biographies and some 'trash' -poor girl made good etc. Also peoples tales of their animals - usually pretty funny.

I dabble with me paints - watercolour, pastel, acrylics and draw if the mood takes me. I also like to play around with Paintshop Pro to maipulate my photos - another hobby.

We love to go off in the caravan.

I've always enjoyed gardening - I used to try growing strange plants in the greenhouse - stopped all that when we started going away more. We've also made the garden easier - I just can't do it anymore. We are about to get rid of the last biggish bed. We'll extend the gravel area and just have some plants set in it. Hubby does his best but still doesn't know a weed from a cultivated plant.....

No Pat, I have not read them.

Many thanks, I'll seek them out in the library. :flowers:

One of my favourite modern authors is Diana Gabaldon. When I began reading the first book in her Outlander series, I thought, "come on, get real!!". However, once I got beyond the 'travel' to 200 years before, I became addicted. The 'heroine' is a Doctor from our times, experiencing life 200 years ago. The use of herbs in that time is facinating. Gabaldon has researched the era magnificently. :D

I have read numerous authors who have written about the Tudors. I have also thoroughly enjoyed the BC era and beyond into the AD years. The Vikings rape and pillage was exciting too! :D

Thanks - sounds interesting! I have just sent an email to my local second hand book store to see if they stock anything by her.

I have the complete set - bought them one by one on eBay so that I could read them all again.

I admit that there is a relationship theme between the hero...

Quote from Wikipedia:

A strapping young Scottish redhead with a dark past and a disarming sense of humor

and the heroine.

But outside of that, and amongst others, it embraces the battle of Culloden and the trials and tribulations of travel across the Atlantic in that era.

Quote from Wikipedia:

The story is an integral step in a bestselling and surprisingly rich tale spanning the time from the Scottish Rising of 1745, to the American Revolution.

:D
