CurlyWhirly Posted April 1, 2009 Report Share Posted April 1, 2009 Does 2.12p per litre actually make a difference?It does when the price keeps going up and around 79% of the price at the pumps is now petrol duty and VAT What some people might not realise is that when VAT was cut from 17.5% to 15%, the government slyly cut the VAT to 15% but increased the fuel duty to compensate and when the VAT goes back up to 17.5% at the end of the year, petrol will rise again.These continual price rises just increase the price of everything in the shops and are inflationary to the UK economy. You have just got to realise that unless our Lord of the Bank Scams, and Saviour of the World, gets a lot more money, he will not be able to fulfill his ambition to become Global Gordon, and will have to be sectioned under the mental health act in an impoverished state. Stealthily, over the years, they have managed to get the price of diesel...a by-product of petrol distilation, way up beyond the price of petrol. Of this roughly 66 pence is duty and VAT - 71%At today's sterling/dollar exchage rate this works out at the equivalent of $5.09 per US gallon. More than twice what you pay. Of this roughly $3.61 would be Tax and petrol duty.When I was last in the USA I hired a Chrysler 300C car - big by our standards with a V8 engine. Over the 2 week period it averaged 25 mpg (US gallons). Hence a 100 mile trip would use 4 gallons of fuel costing $8.40I run an Audi A4 Estate car with a 2 litre petrol engine - on a good day with a tail wind it averages about 30 mpg (US Gallons). Hence a 100 mile trip would use 3.33 gallons costing me the equivalent of $16.95.It seems we pay double the fuel costs to run smaller and less powerful cars. We the English will single handedly stave off global warming, think of the gratitude the rest of the world will feel for our unstinting self sacrifice in their name. We feel the love guys ! Oh sorry I was off in cloud cuckoo land, now the medication's kicked in I remember, we are being bilked by the unelected pension pirate for every penny he can squeeze to bail out his banking buddies, plug the result of ten years of chronic profligacy and failure to put anything aside for the thin times.
