The politicians as usual are just mucking about talking about it. It must be soul destroying, and once it has happened it must make it near to impossible to sell the house. The SW has been getting the trouble, just above Cumbria and out as far as Stranraer. I'm on the SE side of the Border. Fortunately I live on the top of a slope and the nearest river is about three quarters of a mile down from us. catgate Posted November 20, 2009 Report Share Posted November 20, 2009 There are vast swathes of the country, which used to hold water in the peaty moorland type soils, and which were drained "on the advice of the experts". These lands now deposit their rainfall onto the lower lands and water courses. The sons of these experts then came along and built flood defences all over the country, most of which deflect water to someonelses patch.The grandsons of the original experts are still "advising" those who screw us for tax, and they are saying that we are all going to drown in the icy waters from the poles (not the mid European Poles, although around here we are already up to our knees in them ). More moisture in the atmosphere means more rainfall, especially on land areas bordering seas where warm air meets cold and causes precipitation.What are our leaders doing about it?
