One minute it was tranquil with almost clear skies and sunshine when suddenly a ferocious wind blew up, it went dark within a minute and down came dense snow for about 4 minutes which immediately settled. It then went as fast as it came and we are back to sunshine and blue skies with occasional clouds.Exactly the same occurrence here in Stafford... We had to put the lights on! It took us twenty minutes longer than usual to get to the Hospital the main problem being the 'Moor Top'.There was about five to six inches of slushy snow and I had to take it easy because of the steepness of the banks. It was minus 4.5 deg C up there, it was only minus .5 deg C at home level when we left. When we eventually arrived at the Hospital they had had an emergency and everything was running forty minutes late. 'Er in beds appointment was for 15:10 hrs but she didn't get seen to until 15:55 so that knocked all the rest of the day's plans out of the window. To cap it all on the way home there had been a five vehicle pile on on 'Gordon Hill, ( no before you ask, it is a place name not a person) and we were caught up in a twelve mile tail back which cost us one and a half hours. It's a step hill, 1 in 5. 20% in decimal currency.The good news is she is all clear. Nothing in the Stomach or Gullet. The bad news is, we have to go back next Wednesday to get the other end done, 15:00 hrs this time. What the Doctor's want to know is, if has got any worse or is getting better. I doubt whether is has got any better as she seems to be passing more blood lately.It's still snowing like hell up here with a lot more to come. If it keeps up like this I think there will be a lot of people going nowhere fast. We were told in the summer that the local Council was cutting back on the remainder of this years budget. It looks like they have decided to cut back on gritting the roads as there was very little evidence of any having been done between us and Melrose. I wish her well for next Wednesday's ordeal - fingers crossed that at the very least things are no worse. There was six inches came down on Monday night then it started again last night and is still snowing now. We have only had a snow plough around once, last Saturday. I think they have cut back on the amount of grit they bought in as he didn't spread much down this lane. :(They stopped using the farmers, they used to allot them an area on the small roads and villages to keep clear and supply a snowplough, our council told a farmer he couldn't clear the road from his farm to the main road last year as he wasn't trained and if he did it again he would be prosecuted, this is why the roads are not cleared any more.
