AlanHo
I regard any Windows user connected to the internet as irresponsible if they do not have adequate anti malware protection. Especially now that Microsoft Security Essentials is so effective and free of charge. How do you know that you are not spreading malware to your contacts if you have no means of detecting it?For all you know there are scumbags accessing your machine daily for all sorts of nefarious purposes. -pops-
It is folly not to have some sort of anti-malware program.Any contact a computer has with this outside world renders it vulnerable to attack from the attentions of the antisocial elements of society.Malware does not require the Internet to spread its payload. The early viruses were around long before the Internet became popular and were spread by transfer from borrowed floppy disks/tapes commercial CDs and games, pirate CDs and games, and such like.I have looked at/fixed many computers so infested with malware that they no longer function in any useful way. There is no need to pay for anti-malware programs. There are a number available completely free of charge and even Microsoft have now produced their own.

vietnamvetpc
Well, IMO, as long as you have spybot or a malware scanner you will be ok. However if you ever visit questionable sites (porn sites etc) you are asking for trouble. If you do online banking or pay bills online, you are asking for identity theft problems! Use Panda or Avast. They are free. It will not hurt you to run them!Just because you have gone by without any virus infections does not mean someone is waiting to get some personal information. You might as well be prepared. I would compare it to having sexual relations with 100 women. If you do not get one of the women pregnant you are either very lucky or need to promote to boxers! Lets not even bring STD into the equation..

Lets not even bring STD into the equation..I had to Google for meanings of the acronym STD. There are dozens. The most likely one seems to be "Standard Trunk Dialling" since you also referred to "boxers" which are a type of trunks.

Belatucadrus
There are currently loads of free Anti Virus progs for the home user, all of which are pretty good and most have their supporters who will swear by them :-avastAviraAVGMicrosoft Security EssentialsRisingComodoPC ToolsDigital DefenderPanda CloudAny one will do, but remember to remove any existing anti virus before trying to install a replacement. Two or more AV progs rarely play nice together.

Belatucadrus
It's too slow if my acer use it! Why? Who can help me?Would probably help if you told us what "it !" was.Your profile says you're running W7 with 2GB of RAM which should be more than sufficient, how old is the PC and do you have multiple anti virus programs ? MANEMAN
I've become so paranoid, that I have all of my incomings & outcomings piped through the FBI and CIA. Also I have a personal "Food Taster". B) .=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.Seriously. if you have very, very strong paranoid feelings when surfing the internet.Surf with a Virtual Machine (VM) or one of the many cheap, or free variations of virtualization:Returnil, Timeshare Wonder Freeze, Sandboxie, etc; etc; etc. To name but a few.Or you may even consider using a Linux Live CD to browse.C'mon guys. - Surf it, Wipe it, - carry on computing. - a whole lot of this virtualization stuff is free, and just a "Google" away from you !Let's just speed up and move on a little here. (I've found it, and have been using it a long, long, time. - And I am not the sharpest knife in the block, believe me ! :) )I'm finding it just a little bit hard to believe that folks are relying on Anti-Virus and Anti- Malware alone to combat intrusions, and system problems, also that the whole Virus, Malware, debate is still holding firm in many forums.Nobody posting here is using some sort of system virtualization, or browser sandboxing ?????  You are joking. - Right ?Forget Apathy. - Forget Spoonfeeding, - Get out there and grab some of the FREE virtualization stuff that is going,(Yeah. and it works on most versions of Windows 7)John. MANEMAN
I'm on a Mac and have no need for antivirus protection. You are not very well informed are you ? :) With the introduction and popularity of Mac OS X, Apple Computer has become an increasingly bigger target for viruses and hacker attacks, according to a report from anti-virus software vendor Symantec Corp."Contrary to popular belief, the Macintosh operating system has not always been a safe haven from malicious code," said the 96-page report, entitled the Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, obtained by The Mac Observer. "It is now clear that the Mac OS is increasingly becoming a target for the malicious activity that is more commonly associated with Microsoft and various Unix-based operating systems. Symantec believes that as the popularity of Apple's new platform continues to grow, so too will the number of attacks directed at it.""I think it is fair to say that Mac users today shouldn't believe they're impervious to attacks."
