AlanHo Posted July 15, 2010 Report Share Posted July 15, 2010 Now that spell of lovely weather has come to a wet end and it is raining all the time - we are setting off for Cornwall later today - returning on 25th July.I shall have my laptop with me to continue with my writing - if I can get onto the web easily - I may drop in here from time to time - who knows? Where abouts will you be?We're going there in September - last year we had two weeks of continuous sunshine....We have rented a cottage at Mawgan near Helston - I have friends down there I need to catch up with.My wife is still recovering from major surgery and cannot sit in the car for too long - so we are breaking the journey in both directions with an overnight stay in a hotel on the outskirts of ExeterWe are restricted to UK holidays this year because my wife is not allowed to fly (no broom jokes please) - so we have a week booked in Yorkshire at the end of August and another week in Cornwall at the end of September Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

AlanHo Posted July 25, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 25, 2010 We are back home after a splendid week in Cornwall - spoiled only by one day of heavy rain and fog which caused the cancellation of a pre-booked helicopter trip to Tresco for us to visit the famous Abbey gardens. Regular readers will recall that this is now the fourth time the day trip has been cancelled - starting with June 2009, twice in May 2010 and now July. We are going back to Cornwall in September and I am tempted to book again - but my wife is concerned that the 'Gods' are trying to tell us something.... B. Unfortunately it is not possible to book at the last minute - the helicopter service is always booked weeks in advance.Whilst down there we visited the Minack Theatre for a matinee performance of the Bartered Bride. The theatre is outdoors and built into a natural ampetheatre in the rocks facing the sea. It is awsomely beautiful.Some pics hereIf you go to south Cornwall the Minack experience is a must.On the last day we popped in to meet up with Maneman and his wife who proved to be splendid company. He is not quite as crazy in real life as his persona on the forum and we have added another couple of nice friends to our ever decreasing circle. He kindly gave me a disc containing recordings by his choir(s) which were very good and provided background music in the car as we headed home. We got caught in a motorway tailback for a short while and adjacent drivers must have wondered what the hell was going on in our car when we got to some happy clappy church type stuff.So its now back to reality for 5 weeks until we go up to the Yorkshire Dales with a couple of friends for 10 days near the end of August.
