Belatucadrus Posted December 17, 2010 Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 Don Van Vliet, best known by the stage name Captain Beefheart, has died aged 69.Some of the Captains work was almost completely impenetrable (Troutmask replica) but his experimental originality was occasionally a joy and in this tawdry world of X factor homogenised pap musak he will be missed by many. When he later got into composing Gustav was heard to say Way to go dude, the Magic band are totally awesome and Captain Beefheart is like sooooo totally real.He went on to acknowledge that he owed everything to Don Van Vliet and said that everybody should listen to Troutmask Replica at least twice a day.Many experts consider that Gustav probably wasn't well at the time or had severely overindulged in the Absinthe for at least a week prior to the pronouncement.Would I care to expound on the peculiarities of the aforementioned album, lets just say that it's an idiosyncratic work that sharply divides those that hear it into two camps, those that think it's a work of genius and those that think it's discordant bilge. It's so long since I heard it I can't be sure but whatever you think Simon Cowell and his pap production machine couldn't have come up with anything like it in a month of Sundays if their lives depended on it.
