African Animals Eat Fermenting Fruit

My granny lived in a deeply rural area and the family always kept two or three pigs and assorted edible birds (fowls, ducks, geese). They also had an orchard in which grew some of the most acidic, bitter tasting apples ever. These apples were made into cider and the mash or leftover pulp was fed to the animals. If it wasn't eaten fairly quickly, it would ferment and produce alcohol.

The drunken creatures had some resemblance to those on the video but, believe me, you wouldn't want to be too close to any of them the day after. Two reasons: hangover (pigs have big teeth and geese are nasty tempered even when they're sober) and the effect that the apple pulp had on the digestive system. A whole town could have been powered by the methane produced and the smell had to be experienced to be believed. Also, pigs tend to have loose bowels as a norm but being completely liquid created quite a slipping hazard. I did learn that birds can fart, though.
