Paul Posted October 22, 2003 Report Share Posted October 22, 2003 Here it comes....Concorde is here B) Parked up on Taxi way bravo to off load the lucky SOB`s that have just flown on her...Nose up....A BAE 146 and a local segull saying Hi.....Most of the planes that taxied past Concorde slowed down to have 1 last look at a servicable Concorde and to wave fairwell :( Concorde being towed to gate 41 to collect passengers...At Gate 41....Taxing past us all for take off.... Heard a huge noise in the sky... looked up and there she was flying overhead.I'm glad I saw that. There is just something about Concorde. It is criminal, that now they no longer want the fleet, that they have refused to sell it to Branson. The government has refused to intervene. B.A. should be made to pay the development costs back to the public as long as they refuse to sell to Branson. Even if it bankrupt's them. A couple as a fare paying passenger (I wasn't paying) and a few times since. My son in law was a BA pilot (not Concorde) but after the Paris incident and it was just getting back into service, it wasn't getting the passenger numbers it used to so, there were spare seats going cheap.I too can't understand why Branson is barred from taking over from BA and AF in the maintenance and flying of this amazing aircraft but there is an awful lot more than we know about going on between these arch rivals. Every time It landed or took off it would cause a whirlwind in the yard.None of the windows fitted in that place! To use the phone it was a stop/start situation. I still remember a few years ago playing Golf and Concorde was doing a demonstration flight over a factory that made parts for her and they were using the Golf course as a turning point , the whole course just stopped for about ½hour to watch, it was an awesome sight as she was so low.Happy memories. mark2 Posted October 23, 2003 Report Share Posted October 23, 2003 As an air cadet many moons ago I was lucky enough (among many others) to have a tour of one of the prototypes at Filton(I think it was). And then later, when doing glider training at South Cerney we used to get a 3 minute warning that Concorde was taking off from RAF Fairford and would have to have the gliders on the ground before it overflew us. It was a very impressive sight then at less than 10,000 feet and a wonderful sound !!!!Did you know the prototype was 9' shorter than the production models !!Locally we're hoping that one of the Concordes will return home to Filton. I love the nose on,one ...Branston was after the free publicity as usual methinks ......If he was given the planes plus the true maintenance costs to keep them in the air , plus the increasing indemnity insurance costs to keep them flying on 30 year old airframes , I'll be he would walk ...its got to be the most beautiful plane ever built ....
