I don't think we should concern ourselves with winners and losers. Sport should be simply the joy of playing a game or running a race etc.

In our local school the kids are not allowed to mention the word loser - they come first, second, third etc. To say that someone lost could cause them to suffer from some complex rejection syndrome and suffer post competitive event stress trauma which could scar them for life.

Hence if France score more than England - so what - England will not have lost they will merely have come second and will have got great joy from playing the game. The last thing we need is players struggling to live on £50,000 per week with some complex losers syndrome.

Unfortunately we do concern ourselves with winners and losers. This results in baser instincts being realised (as I expounded above) resulting in sublimated (and not so sublimated) warfare.

This has been amply demonstrated in the past, IS being demonstrated in Portugal at the present time and will, without any doubt, be demonstrated in the future at these kinds of events.

competition is an evolutionary thing.... if we didn't strive to be the best.... we would probably still be an amoeba in a pond somewhere.

Healthy competition hurts no-one and it would be good to see the football team that represents my country do well.

In the absense of an Aussie team to mock, I'll be supporting the Poms. It's a tribal thing, traditional, primaeval, marking a difference between breeds, establishing a separation and a healthy gene pool. Yeah, bring it on. Mind you, a Pommy sending-off will condemn the entire nation to shame, branded as cheats, ne'er-do-wells, genetically inferior.

Is Sven really playing Rooney ? :D
