doug
Mark2 PM'd me the other day to remind me to post the sponsorship request. This I am now doing. To the new members you will note from my signature that I was able to hand over a cheque for £1000 (of which £200 came from yourselves) to the Regional Disability/Rehabilitation Unit at Hunters Moor. This enabled them to complete the purchase of a Balance Trainer which is having plenty of good and effective use. I've been trying to find the links to the treads for last year. The best I've come up with, so far, is as follows :-My WebpageTried to find the link to andsome's thread that he posted on Sunday 21st Sept. I have a hard copy and have thoroughly enjoyed reading it again. Brought back memories. If someone could post the link I would be obliged. To date I have £36.07 cash in the bank for this year and £25 pledgedProgress, we have been very busy, Anne has been growing plants like mad for sale at the Hospital. Talking to the OT and was informed that they have done so well with plants this year that they are already having meetings to decide on the next purchase. Will let you know the outcome. Now me, I now 67 (nearly caught up with andsome again) and have been accepted for this years run. Have tried to get out for jogs and was starting to do quite well again - 6 milers every 3rd or 4th day ~55 mins. Then disaster, was kneeling doing some weeding for the wife and the inside of my right knee went. It so happened that Anne was having a session at the hospital a couple of days later when I was ordered onto a bed by one of the physio's. Was the firmly told to stay off the running for a while. So I duly obeyed - always do as I'm told. After a couple of weeks was obviously starting to suffer with joint cramps due to lack of exercise. I have now followed family recommendations and treated myself to a mountain bike. So Have been accompanying G'daughter to school on hers - she's only just recently cracked bikes.Been off on occasional 6 mile trips along the different jogging routes that I use. Had a couple of really enjoyable trips out, with Dani on her bicycle, Anne in her PowerTrike/wheelchair and me. Have discovered 2 very painful hard bits in my backside that I had completely forgotten about when I first started to cycle as a lad. Anyway, this Sunday just gone I went out for a cautious jog. Only 4 miles with lots of walking rests, and it went OK.So that is the start of this year's requests for sponsors. Anyone who wishes to sponsor me please PM me.Think I've found the link to andsome's thread belowMy Webpage

doug
A thought for our newcomers, who may be interested, I did a summary of last years experiences on my website. Just click on the www button. The manufacturer of the balance trainer have changed their website so the link has vanished. I'll try and do an update. doug
Right an update. Having had the bike for a couple of weeks, I think my knees have now settled down Did a slow walk/jog for 4 miles last Sunday and this morning I did a 6.25 mile jog. No problem with knees, 63 min 13 sec vs 58 min 17 sec just before knee problem. Enjoyable trot until it started to rain on my return. I do hate it when it rains. Can't see out of my glasses. Chests and shorts get soaked down the front. It also hurts my head where I've grown too tall for my hair. Still being able to give up shaving for the morning, at least I didn't get any wind burn on my face.Said to family last Sunday that I was thinking of getting an Odometer for the bike so I could more accurately clock the distances I rub and was promptly told it was already organised for Father's day. So I'll be more confident with my distances. Last year I was so puzzled that various runs were getting shorter and shorter according to the Pedometer, 'till I realised my average pace length was getting longer.

doug
I think I will but with a couple of modifications. My first thought was to print across 2 A4 pages and laminate them side by side to try and make it stand out more. On further consideration A3 might be just a bit too much for weight and the wind. I'll have a go at trying to make the print more dense and play with the font size of the second line. I will also have the page laminated as last years (which is still stood up in the corner by my desk still cellotaped to a garden cane) was just inserted into a transparent plastic pocket. I think this may have reduced the overall contrast.
doug
The link I posted at the start of this thread seems to have been disabled. I'll try posting it again for those interested.Great North Run 2003That seems to work. Just ignore the 2004 link otherwise you may get a circular reference as it's this thread. :D
