How much do you guys normally spend on the kids for Christmas? I am getting my wife a membership to a local health club so she can swim. With the condition of her leg she can no longer walk like she used to and she wants to get back to exercising.Who knows what my son and daughter want....they will give us a list (prioritized) knowing that they get what fits into the Christmas budget.I am asking for a fog proof shaving mirror for the shower. My old one crapped out....also a Lebron James throw back bobble head (Go figure it out). I will probably also get the usual flannel shirt and some baseball cards (I collect them) also.I was raised in a family of 5 kids and although we never got much expensive stuff we got a lot of it....Christmas was always a big thing with my family. My wife is the other side of the spectrum. Her family exchanged one or two simple gifts and that was it. Please pass the grey poupon.This has always been a struggle since our daughter was born, but I have slowly won my wife over to my side, although I have had to compromise on the amount spent/kid. In order to make things fair we spend the same amount (or as close to) on both kids. We do not spend as much on the kids as many families do, and limit it to around $250 to $300 per kid. I like surprises :) As for the family... I'm not sure yet, I'm not very organised. It is also macho to appear either mean or outrageously generous with no middle ground. artist Posted November 18, 2004 Report Share Posted November 18, 2004 I wasn't here yesterday - did the booze run to France again!We used to spend a lot on each other - it got totally out of hand. We have two married daughters who are not at all hard up and buy mostly what they want anyway. So a few years ago, daughter number 2 said no more! I suggested a money limit - to use some imagination - but no.It's not the feative season it used to be - it's all so commercial now. My mother LOVED christmas - used to buy stupid things - just got great pleasure from having lots of gifts. We all used to groan about some of the gifts but always got a laugh out of it - lovely memories.Our festive season now seems to be all about rich food, lazing around and watching TV.
