Please include the Country you are from.

Suit and tie may include only a pressed shirt and tie with dress slacks, but with a tie.

I have found the Europeans to dress more formally than those of us in the States. At least that is with the folks from the UK and German I used to work with.

What say you?

When I was an employee I felt obliged, because of my position in the company, to dress in suit and tie. I was so glad to take them off in the evening, though.

Now that I'm retired and just do consultancy work from home, I wear just what I want to, obviously For client meetings and court appearances, I do dress more smartly although I try to avoid the suit and tie nowadays.

Note: my court appearances are in a purely professional capacity :)

I work as an IT Support Tech for a College here in the UK. Officially we have no dress code, but as the majority of our team are young (20 - 25), in order to distinguish ourselves from the students we all voluntarily wear suits.

Apart from the senior management and some older staff, we are the only ones to do this. However it is generally appreciated by all, staff and students, and we think it gives our department a good image.

Where I work we do have a dress code. We deal with the public and have to present a 'business like' image. Although some peoples definition of business like is a bit wierd but there you go. :P

So for me it is a skirt or trousers.... ironed of course, with a blouse or jumper etc. Sometimes when I'm really pushing the boat out I will wear a business suit.

I'm in the uk!

Edit: I wear a little badge with my name on it too!! Just in case I forget who I am. :D

There are no rules as such but it is expected that you will dress smartly. I opt for shirt and tie with smart-casual trousers. I'm not that fussed what I wear but havinga shirt/tie on during work does give a divide between work and home. We have a 'dress down' day for Charity on the last friday in the month which is "nice".

For me it is a bit like having a school uniform, you get up and don't have to waste time thinking what to wear you just grab a shirt, a tie that matches and you're done. Easy.

And yup, I'm in the UK

"Business Casual" for me.....khakis and a collared shirt, normally a button down, or a polo/golf knit shirt.

I am in the USA.

The suit and tie used to be the dress of the day for all businesses, but we went away from that a dozen or so years ago in favor of a more casual attire.

Jeans and tee shirts are rarely in favor with businesses here.

I don't work anymore.

Hubby was always used to suits and ties (has huge collection of ties). Where he is now smart trousers and shirts are required, but Fridays are dress-down days .... he can't get used to not wearing a tie (which is his equivalent of 'dress down').

His first visit to the parent company (in the States) traumatised him  He was told that if he wore a tie next day then it would be cut off!

Pity really - number one son is a Director of a silk tie establishment so there are loads and loads of ties taking up space in this household.

Never quite got the philosophy behind these "dress down days". One's attire is either OK all the time or it is not. Having a one day exception every week/month seems anachronisitic.
