andsome
The programme outlived its usefulnessWhat was that then?????The usefulness then was that it provided a bit of absolute trash, before we became inundated with soap opera and reality TV. Belatucadrus
I've got nothing against Eurovision as such, I've been through all the stages sequentially over the years, from:- A ) Watching the whole thing.B ) Watching the scoring.C ) Catching the result.D ) Total indifference. What I don't get is why the BBC pay for the event, it's been a anachronistic bad joke in most of western Europe for years. OK so it may be huge in Moldova, but that doesn't seem much of a reason to foot the bill.

Belatucadrus
I thought it was the winning country that paid.... well what a waste of my license fee. :angry:Fortunately not all of it, it's a sort of four way split between Britain, Germany, France and Spain. I don't know who pays what, how much or exactly what this involves. But it's why we didn't have to qualify after Gemini got null points. Which is a pity as it seemed a great excuse to dump the whole fiasco.Obviously the winners have to set up the venue which is expensive, apparently it cost Ireland a lot when they won some close together and may explain why they've not done too well since, or maybe everybodys afraid they'll do River dance again.
