Like I said, corporations, no matter what their cause lack human emotions, therefore they do not care if you do not have a job. They care that their quarterly earnings went up 1/2 a point. During that time four others came and went in the north and also in the south. I was the mug who stuck it for the longest. After all that time I ended up with a nervous breakdown. I had to attend a stress management course and take drugs for several months. All turned out well in the end I am glad to say. I had to retire early at 63 due to this problem, but since then have never looked back. I just hope that the end result for you is good. During my 30+ years working in the heavy construction industry, ie: power stations, oil refineries etc: I have been made redundant numerous times. In all my working life, the longest I ever worked for a company was when I was serving my apprenticeship.Don't let it get the better of you, something always turns up. I had to give up work at 39 through illness, took me 5 years to adjust to the fact that I would not work again. Still have the odd bad moment now and then, but believe me its not the end of the world though you will be feeling it is at the moment. I only wish it were possible to open the eyes of those who are causing all the current hardship and mayhem with "downsizing, outsourcing. etc.", and show them what they are storing up for society in general. I know that most of them are like lemmings and can not be diverted from "conventional wisdom", which they use in the absence of any of their own. What these idiots do not comprehend is that every employee is a consumer, and the less employees there are in society the less consumers there are. ranger Posted May 25, 2005 Report Share Posted May 25, 2005 Sorry to hear that Lester, I know how worrying it can be and how you feel, I was made redundant 16 years ago and it was a worrying time for a while but it sorted itself out, i'm sure it will for you.Not wanting to steal your thread but I also received a bit of a shock this weekI have been with my current employer (University of Glasgow) for about 15+ years and have always felt secure, so much so that I never took redundancy cover for my Mortgage or bills, we received a letter on Monday saying that the Uni was heading for a large deficit and that in the first place they were looking for voluntary redundancies but that it may go to compulsory, I am hoping my department will be okay as we bring in income but you can never tell. I am trying to stay positive not only for myself, but for the staff who I supervise as it is a worrying time for all and I am constantly getting asked if I think there jobs will be okay, (I honstly believe their's will be okay ) I will be finding out a bit more this Friday when upper management are having a meeting with us, as I said to yourself I'm sure it will work itself out, but as you know, you can't help but worry Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
