Tankus Posted August 1, 2005 Report Share Posted August 1, 2005 Arf................ getting there current evening hobbie is stripping two white marble fireplaces with over 130 years worth of paint and soot on it ..... Ive got down to the stone in some places with paint on peal off paint stripper ....(it doesn't do what it sez on the tin ....some picture of some tart doing it in full makeup, clean jeans, and a rather tight tee shirt , doing nothing harder than stroking a cat ....cut back to me ..bleeding fingers ,chemical burns up to the knuckles , misting over safety goggles ,sweat dripping of my dirty head , and next door complaining about the swearing .....)any suggestions ...?heh ...found a wasps nest in the roof too ...they've gone fortunatelywhoops ..sory ..rotate the first one 90 degrees ....nope I cannot remove it to get it chemically bath striped ...it will crack if I remove it form the wallbut Im open to any cheap low cost /effort ideas to get it back to mint ....(note EFFORT....) They must have been nut's, they may as well have had a plaster one put in.On the Electrical side, if you mean who is responsible for switching off. If it's the supply to the meter it would be the Electricity company. Anything after the meter is the property owners responsibility.Nice bit of room conversion in the second photo's though Tankus, it's amazing what can be done with a little bit of know how. Tankus Posted August 1, 2005 Author Report Share Posted August 1, 2005 I was just taking the Micheal about the electrics ....beats me about the fire places ...only two left ...the front room ones gone which is a shame ...that would have been choice , judging by the back pair ...very 60's makeover methinks ....Ive had a new gas meter installed on the outside ...out of the cellar ..... the whole house is getting rewired when the gas central heating ..goes in next week .... first real biggie job ...... only two more rooms to totally gut and board ...this house is something else ....pulled the ceiling down in the old upstairs kitchen , and found a whole slate roof sitting there...when it got re roofed in the 70's they left all the old slates up there ..in a pile along the beams ..there must have been about half a tonne ..scary job getting it down ...we had bets on who would get decapitated first I can now see the light at the end of the tunnelyou can see the slates in the left picture ...the right is after we finished Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Wipe off anything spilled on marble immediately, just as you would from a wood surface. Devanski Posted August 1, 2005 Report Share Posted August 1, 2005 Use the ORANGE COLORED and SCENTED MILD but effective Citristrip. It is enviormentally friendly and works great without damaging the surface. If it is possible apply the stripper and cover with FOIL. Yes FOIL. The foil will keep the stripper from evaporating. As long as the stripper is wet it is working.
