Big explosions at fuel terminal in Hemel Hempsted and :censored: wally`s are queing at petrol stations in the surrounding area in case ther is a shortage of fuel . :ranting:

Unfortunately that is a fact of life, just put out a rumour about a shortage and people will go to extraordinary lengths to purchase whatever it is.

Just back from Tesco. The queue at the filling station is about a quarter mile long.

Why?

The petrol around here comes from Southampton.

It's something to do with British mentality. I feel sure that it dates back to the war years, when we had to queue for just about everything. It is now part of the British Psyche.

I wouldn't be bothered to fill up because of this non existent 'scare' If I haven't got enough fuel I can

It's the same with people Christmas shopping for food. They buy far more than they really need and the shops are only closed for two day's over the Christmas holiday. They shop like the places were going to be closed for a month. :biggrin:

Just a quick addition to this thread as things have now settled down a bit.

I don't think this sort of thing is confined to the British. I am sure many of our friends in other countries will confirm that, when shortages of something or other look likely the shelves quickly empty and queues (perhaps not orderly queues in some countries) form. Hoarding is common and a self- surviving instinct.

Oddly enough, as you get older, you care less about this and, in our case, cannot be bothered.

Yes, that's the way they are building them since Chrysler got involved. I shall never get another one, the build quality has hit rock bottom.

Yes, I had one of those from the mid 80's till the late 90s. It was a 318i auto, and very good it was too. I had it for almost 13 years, from new. But one day, whilst talking to the service manager at the dealers he told me that all the models produced subsequent to the one I had had slowly got worse, and in a nice way was telling me not to expect the same quality again. So upon its demise (the bulkhead rotted away in two places), I went on to MB, and they have eventually gone the same way, as has everything else in the world (me included). :sad:

I have had Six of them ( OK so they were 5 series) and only had One that gave me problems, my latest has lasted Eight years without any problems. In fact I find that I tend to keep them too long as they are so reliable. ( that doesn't mean that they all are good though )
