We may not live to see global warming, but without doubt we are all going to die. One of the more frightening aspects of this is that some of us will die before others. It is expected that the elderly will die first, although this is not true in 100% of cases.

It would seem to me that this announcement, by the emminent scientist giving us the benefit of his advice, presages the "burying" of some item or other by our beloved leaders.

Or is it that this chap has just found out that the status is never quo for long.

Think I'll be gone before then. Question, should I be cremated thus adding to the carbon dioxide and consume natural gas in the process ensuring there is less for others to use, or should I be planted and use up useable space and feed the crawlies for re-cycling?

There have been global warming and cooling cycles for as long as the world has been around.....core sample prove this....and long before man was even here.

Look at the greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 and SO2) from the Mount Saint Helen eruption alone. Eruptions such as this have been going on as long as the planet has been in existence.

Yes, we do need to be concerned but let's not shoot from the hip on this. B)

I think there are less pollutants floating around the atmosphere now than there was millions of years ago when all the volcano's were active. Then, tree's flourished and gave of oxygen in exchange for gases they needed to breath. Who knows, what we are experiencing now may be part of a cycle that has occurred many times before in the life of the planet.

I think this is an issue which can be debated, and argued, for months, if not years to come with no or very little solution coming from those debates.

The rub:

1. There is no undisputed scientific evidence that global warming is caused by man. It is all speculative.

2. The Kyoto Protocol attempted to address the issue by putting strict emission standards on all but the most polluting countries.....namely China and India.

3. The *facts* show that the fluctuations in the Earths temperatures are cyclical and normal based on core samples and temperature data.

4. Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) emissions, once thought to be the leading factor in global warming (ozone layer) were addressed in 1987 (Montreal Protocol) yet global warming continues.

We obviously all have a stake in this...........but show me the *facts*, not speculation. If it is proven that man is to blame then include ALL countries in the emission standards ;)

I would agree that gloal warming and cooling do occur naturally. However, I am convinced that in recent times mankind has greatly accelerated this current round of warming. There was a recent programme on TV which illustrated this fact. Graphs showed the rise and fall over thousands of years in global warming and cooling, with a large rise recently in warming. Superimposed was another graph showing carbon emmisions, and there was no doubt that in the last few years these have increased at an identical rate to each other. I think that mankind has its heads buried in the sands.

It has started to happen already around here. Four elderly people have died in our village in the last couple of weeks, and in the village five miles away three more have died in the same space of time. One of them was only 78.

Yes, the USA did not sign on with Kyoto. Could it be because........India and Russia were excluded from the restriction? Yet both of those countries are amongst the worst in polluting the atmosphere.

The US could really make a difference if they were to back the Kyoto agreement, 4% producing 25% of the CO2 in the world

They are 3rd world countries and are probably ignorant of the problem of catching up to the western way of life, and I dont think 20,000,000 bikes create as much crap as 1 presidential limo.

If USA were to join they would probably follow suit, as oz would.
