Thos
It ws a serious error by the prison service for which the Home Secretary is responsible. Is it a resignation matter? Probably not.But it is a matter to consider when you record your vote at the election, among many others.Thos.

andsome
How much money did they get when they were released? This governments incompetence goes from bad to worse. What an absolute shower they are. I suppose that as the heat turns up, we will hear that Jug ears has B'liars absolute confidence.
catgate
I suppose that as the heat turns up, we will hear that Jug ears has B'liars absolute confidence.B'liar was confident that he could "reform" the whole of the economy, industry, education, NHS and society. and look what he has done. He has reformed it. So his confidence was well founded. Granted he has reformed it all into the most diabolical mess, but nevertheless it is reformed. He seems to have had the same effect with those people in whom he had every confidence. Thos
It's the ears, thay flap so much he gets blown right off course. There has been a lot of references to how intelligent politicians are recently. Belatucadrus
Apparently they've known that this was going on for ten months and have yet to do anything about it."I take responsibility for it," he said. "It is a shocking state of affairs. We are taking it extremely seriously but I don't think this is a resignation matter."Which is a contradiction in terms, they say they take responsibility, but in the same breath tell us that they live happy in the knowledge that for them there are no consequences. Where else in the private or public sector would such incompetence be greeted with a grin a pat on the back and Tonies "Full support".Mr Clarke said today that he had tendered his resignation to Tony Blair but the Prime Minister "didn't think it was right".As I understand it the only offence Tony sees as "right" is not agreeing with him, tow the line and anything goes.Asked if he thought that all of the prisoners would be recaptured for possible deportation, Mr Clarke said he was "pretty confident"So having caught them and going through the rigmarole of getting them convicted and imprisoned, the police now have to go through the whole exercise again. I'd also bet good money that they'll be defended in court by the PC crew, at taxpayers expense when they lodge their inevitable appeals against deportation. The cost of this blunder is going to be enormous.
catgate
The cost of this blunder is going to be enormous.DO NOT WORRY. The British public are made of money, well....of credit card type money, and any expense will soon be recouped through the usual subterfuges and chicanery. There is a lot of "milage" left in this fuel "fraud" yet, and then there is always the backdoor method of lumping it on to local councils. andsome
I just wonder what farce will surface next. This is the problem with one dictator trying to run the whole show. edbanger
This is the problem with one dictator trying to run the whole show. More childish remarks. Dictator.Traditional dictators seize control through force, while constitutional dictators hold office through voting fraud or severely restricted elections, and are frequently puppets and apologists for the military juntas which control the ballot boxes. In any case, none have been democratically elected by a majority of their people in fair and open elections.

Belatucadrus
The office of dictator pre-dates those like Hitler or Stalin, more commonly associated with the term by several centuries and does have several parallels with the PM was an extraordinary magistrate (magistratus extraordinarius) whose function was to perform extraordinary tasks exceeding the authority of any of the ordinary magistrates.Unfortunately however there are significant differences, where the Roman Dictator had 24 Lictors, Tony has a cabinet full of Lick-tors. Marked difference in function, presumably somebody got their wires crossed and thought it must be like the Groom of the stool that Henry the eighth used to have. The original dictatorship was limited to six months, an entirely sensible move that got sidelined by Gaius Julius Caesar, who declared himself perpetual dictator. The six month limit should be reinstated at the earliest possible moment.
