I wanted to post this because browsers seem to be getting more hype lately and I haven't really used more than two browsers, so I wanted to know what other people prefer and why. If you feel strongly about a certain one please list exactly what you like about it or how it outbeats others, especially for the last two. I like the online community and support for it as well as the many extensions and plugins. Its also very simplistic and things were where I wanted them. They seem to implement ideas before others, well atleast IE, and make things look good. Many config settings are in one easy to use place and the best of all I can uninstall it if I want. CurlyWhirly Posted July 15, 2006 Report Share Posted July 15, 2006 I had a problem with IE a while back, switched to firefox and have kept it ever since.That's the same for me as I had trouble with both Internet Explorer and the AOL browser (which is based on IE) as I was restricted due to my security settings being too high but I checked and they weren't!I also had Active X problems and I was at my wits end so after listening to comments about Firefox I decided to give it a try and really like it B) I know it has an annoying memory leak 'bug' but it is easily solved by just closing it down and restarting it again, besides this only happens with me if I leave Firefox open for many hours - typically 12 hours or more. dagwoood Posted July 16, 2006 Report Share Posted July 16, 2006 Firefox gets my vote. With a little tweaking it will render a lot quicker than any other browser. The thing is, you can tweak it based on how powerful your system is and what speed of connection you have. How cool is that B) I know that Opera is touted as being the fastest, but I still find FF faster.As to plugins for FF, Adblock has got to be top of the list. Apart from it blocks irritating adverts, it improves performance as well because it isn't waiting for/loading the useless ads. Flashblock is also another good. I tried to install a spell checker for it and the number of choices with very little explanation was most off putting. I tried everything that was suggested on this forum IE spell check is dead easy. I could really see no advantages to my daily computer usage, and uninstalled it. I had further problems for a time having got rid of it. OK, there may be people who have looked more than once (me included) but that numbe compared with the votes seems a bit wide of the mark.I wonder if the people who have looked and not voted don't use a browser to look at the Internet? AlanHo Posted July 16, 2006 Report Share Posted July 16, 2006 I have IE7 Beta 2 and Firefox installed - but use IE 99% of the time because I am used to it and it does everything I need without any fuss.There are a minimal number of sites that do not show correctly on IE7 so I use FF just for them.Regarding the apparent disparity between the number of people who have voted, compared with the number who have viewed the thread. My guess is that most people who use IE do not feel inclined to vote because they regard IE as the norm. It is those who use other browsers who feel the need to let the World know about their choice. As soon as the connection is made I close IE and open FF.I use FF mostly because of Adblock. I'm on dial up and it takes forever to load pages in IE. Also I think FF is safer than IE in regards to malware and spyware.I was infected twice while using IE before I got FF and have not had any problems since FF. Interesting to see Opera more commonly used in here than IE, and Firefox more than the rest. I expected IE followed by Firefox in a close second, Netscape falling behind with Opera and little to none for Maxthon or Flock. CurlyWhirly, I have never heard of Maxthon or Flock untill I started looking up different types of browsers and they came up in the list along with the others in the poll. I checked them out and they seemed good so I wanted to see it people had ever used them.
