-pops-
Sorry, you can't have the internet... you're over 70By HEIDI DORE Last updated at 22:00pm on 2nd September 2006After walking the Great Wall of China and making plans for a trip to Russia, Shirley Greening-Jackson thought signing up for a new internet service would be a doddle. But the young man behind the counter had other ideas. He said she was barred - because she was too old.The 75-year-old would only be allowed to sign the forms for the Carphone Warehouse's TalkTalk phone and broadband package if she was accompanied by a younger member of her family who could explain the small print to her.Mrs Greening-Jackson, who sits on the board of several charities, said: "I was absolutely furious. The young man said, 'Sorry, you're over 70. It's company policy. We don't sign anyone up who is over 70.'Full story hereI know the Mail "newspapers" are not renowned for their truthfulness but - - - -
catgate
Frightening. It has probably got more to do with the size of the pension viz-a-viz the size of the bill than "protecting" the aged customer.

CurlyWhirly
So in a nutshell, TT are discriminating?Apparently so and it can't do their reputation any good as it is already bad enough with lack of customer support!
deuces wild
Don't you folks have laws against this sort of discrimination?
AlanHo
Don't you folks have laws against this sort of discrimination? Not yet - but the government are currently working on changes in the law to prevent age discrimination for under 65's regarding employment.Another field where things are difficult for over 70's (and in some cases over 65's) is insurance - especially holiday insurance. In these respects the USA are way ahead of the UK - but we beat you hands down in rights for certain minorities and the freedom to come live here illegally and claim state hand-outs.
