Free on two machines Pro on the other one.Anti-Spyware/Adware: AVG Antispyware (formerly Ewido), SuperAntispyware, Ad-Aware, A Squared I run each one in turn over a three week period. Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard - these two run in the background. Firewall: Sygate + Hardware router firewall.System/Registry Tools/Boosters: CCleaner. Very wary of registry cleaners - I have known them do serious damage so I don't use them.Download Programs: Nothing special.
CurlyWhirly
Very wary of registry cleaners - I have known them do serious damage so I don't use them.I agree but the registry cleaner I use only removes entries that are safe to remove and I've been using it for over 3 years with no problems. It was shareware so isn't a freebie, I think I paid £9.99 and it serves me well. -pops-
I don't class Bittorrent or Limewire as "download programs". To my mind they both comprise specialist software to introduce things that I would rather not have in my machines.I have lost count of the number of wrecked and ailing machines that I have been asked to get running again caused by using programs like those.BTW., it isn't what I understood by your original question about "download programs". I will change my response to something that matches my view on these things and state none, never. :)

nellie2
I'm not a great fan of P2P or bittorrents BUT there are many legitimate uses for them and they do serve a purpose. It's not the download or sharing system that causes the problems it is the irresponsible users! -pops-
A number of members' views on Norton are well known here - do a search and you will find out.Regarding numerous antispyware programs, none of them are completely effective so it is probably best to use different ones in turn to get the best out of everything. andsome
btw: whats so good about NOD 32, which makes you NOT choosing Norton IS ?post count: 7 still waiting for: 3 more posts, then i will make a list of software i will use on my new pcbtw: are there any not-listed programs which you strongly recommend?I had Norton 2003 on my computer. When I wanted to update last year, I was informed that I could register for downloads, but no longer qualified for support. I thought that this was disgusting for such a new program. I promptly uninstalled it, and believe me it took some getting rid of. It hogs a tremendous amount of resources. Nod 32 is a much smaller footprint on the machine, and also has the BEST record at finding viruses in the wild. Support is available by either telephone or e mail for as long as a subscription is paid for, and what is more, is that that telephone support is available in the UK for the price of a normal telephone call. NO PREMIUM RATES. It updates several time per day, as soon as new definitions are available. No waiting for a week.

-pops-
I use Diskeeper. I did have Perfect Disk but for some reason it failed on two machines and I couldn't get it going again. I've used Diskeeper for a long time now with no problems
