-pops- Posted December 4, 2006 Report Share Posted December 4, 2006 Not only sandwiches but lots of other things like beef stew, Sunday roasts and fish & chips a friend used to insist on strawberry (or raspberry) jam (jello) on them.On the banana and brown sauce sandwich, above, perhaps it would help if I explained the circumstances. It was in the 1940s when food supplies were extremely short. We were very lucky one day to get bananas in the local shop and, never having seen one before I wasn't quite sure how it should be eaten. A friend suggested we slice it and make a sandwich. Not having eaten banana before, I found the taste very odd and quite unpleasant. We used to take them with us when we went hiking (boy scout stuff). They looked revolting. Likes small dark human faeces (no, not the faeces of a small dark human). However thet tasted superb.
