I could have misread the article of course. His footballing days are coming to a close and his wife need to continue to be able to live in the manner to which she is now accustomed so she forged a friendship with the Cruise family (Tom and the other one, his wife) as the first step to the big screen.It doesn't matter that he has a squeaky voice or is likely to be unable to act. It competes in the World Cup and has to qualify like everyone else, unless the USA are acting as hosts. It's players, like many other national teams, including Brazil, play in leagues all over the world.Now Beckham. Like it or not his name is an immense draw and sells merchandise all over the world. That is why Real Madrid bought him for £30m or so some years ago, and he has rewarded them handsomely. The manager of LA Galaxy, I believe himself an ex US international player, is attempting to push soccer to be a major sport in the US and signing Beckham not only to play but to coach youngsters and promote the game is his way of doing it. Of course money is a high priority - why not? - If people want to give it away, who would refuse.There are so many show biz people with the same attitude, yet those two always get bad headlines!He was a damn good footballer and still pretty good. She is just a typical poser, much like thousands of others. I can only say that whenever I have seen them on TV they have always come across as pretty much down to earth and likable.Give me the offer to earn so much for something I like doing anyway - I'd jump at the chance! -and so would most people.!!
