Just like the TV commercials i've been seeing..Like the disscusion i had with HP a little while back , I was told that they "Could Not" sell me a computer "without" Windows Pre-Installed..., That doing so would violate their agreement's with their partners.. Sory but I dont buy it :( It would be too nice.A desktop computer I would make it from scratch, since for me there is no other way. But when it comes to a laptop, things get more difficult.Remember the time when dell used to sell computers with Linux and chage for them more than 200$ than those with MS ? I am sure that most areas will have at least one decent shop locally. There is also the question of support. When buying from a distant company, you can get involved in hours of premium rate telephone calls, speaking to faceless people. If you buy locally, support is always within easy reach. My son in law learned this lesson the hard way with Evesham, he spent a small fortune on getting it right. It is not always easy to discover the reliability etc of the "local" man and the extent of the support he can offer. For example, such a local man supplied a machine made to order for a relative of mine who made various enquiries before placing the order. The machine had to go back several times and it was apparent that the man did not have the facilities to cope. The machine was back in his workshop for weeks. When contacted he would say "Don't telephone me, it takes me away from my work. I will ring you" but days and weeks would go by without any contact.I have been doing quite a bit of ferreting around recently and I cannot come up with anyone around here I would wish to got to. Although big suppliers, such as Evesham, Novatech etc. have cases where a customer may be dissatisfied, the broad consensus through customer surveys is good.Thos.
