Where I was born, they say booke, but I think I probably say buck now.... Maybe that's because I left there so many years ago!

There used to be two bookshops very similar to that on Queen's Road in Brighton. Spent many hours in there sorting through the books.

The owner wasn't a very nice person but, he knew his stock and where it was located in the apparent shambles.

Sadly now gone - as has Hollyman and Treacher on Duke Street - the best second-hand bookshop I've known.

Now if any of you happen to visit Alnwick in Northumbria you must visit the book shop. This is in the old railway station - used to be the end of line terminus before it was Beechinged I think. Anyway it is absolutely stuffed. Not only are all the rooms full of book shelves but the old restaurant and waiting rooms are still there and you can sit at the tables and on the benches and browse through your possible purchases. One highlight is that above head hight is a model railway track with real live model trains chuntering round. It's a Pip!

It sounds to be worth making the trip just for the book shop and model train set.

Fascinating region. There is, of course, the gardens at Alnwick castle - including the water cascade which is magnificent and the enormous tree house - and just south on the A1 on the left,there is this antique shop. this is well worth a visit. It has this very large wooden arm chair perched on the roof. Bit off topic but I thought they were worth mentioning.
