But no idea, what went wrong.

All folders for the forum were gone! They were not there...

The Database for the forum was there and errmm voila, so nothing has been lost!

As I type the folders for the forum are not there on FTP as well as the files so how the heck I'm typing this I'll never know.

p.s. Craig had to be on hold for about 50 mins...to get the hosts on it.

It is very interesting.

I will post details of the issue once fasthosts notify me of what happened.

As it stands at the moment, the site is not fully operational, some files are still unaccessable.

I wondered why so few accessed the backup forum. Have they all forgotten it? If so I suggest thet they now bookmark www.windowsforumbackup.org

:D

P.S. Many thanks to Admins for all their hard work getting things up and running again. :D

OK, Fasthosts have stated they had a global outage on one of their NAS Clusters. I'm not sure what a NAS Cluster is, but they have it back up and running.
Thanks for the update Craig.

Did the forum loose much history or has it all been recovered?

An "outage" is always a frightening thing, especially a NAS outage. The odd thing is no that one, that I have heard of, has ever had an "inage". Not even a NAS one.

Another seldom heard of technical occurrence is an "upage". Although I believe the "throughage" is just round the corner and set to become a very serious threat.

Well, my mother board died on my main PC yesterday, and even using my works laptop (as I am now) I still couldn't get WF, so I was thinking I would have to put myself up for IT adoption!

Not that I was NASzed off, but it's nice to find a home again.

:flowers:

Whoops, forgot the back-up site .. must bookmark that again ..

I was wondering what was happening? Glad your back ! All I was getting was an error page in FF yesterday? Started the browser today and it crashed as WF was loading? Ended the process and it's fine now - it did want a cookie though when I restarted it - Strange when I have allowed the WF cookies before? Ah well welcome back ;)

Have got the backup link now, thanx for the link andsome ;)

No data was lost. The database was still available as this is housed on a different server. The only thing that happened was the actual files went missing.

If it wasn’t for a permissions error (also affected by the NAS), I would have restored the key files myself within an hour, with the rest of the files being restored within 3 hours. But as it turns out, five minutes after a support call being logged, the forum and all data was restored.

I could have driven down to Gloucester Docks in 10 minutes with a DVD and asked them to restore it if needed; but then again I'm not sure that they would let me in.
