It will be available for download soon like the phone book was! Nice to see them blaming the 'juniors' - at least this way 'heads won't roll' eh! ;)

Yes.

Also putting this data on to a CD was illegal and not in accordance with the data protection act

The chancellor said the civil servant had broken the rules by downloading the data to disc and sending it by unrecorded delivery

From last nights News night, it now appears that the government were trying to make a scapegoat of the civil servant involved. Evidently it has been normal practise to use these C.D's for some time for sensitive information due to cutbacks ordered by Brown. The department concerned did NOT WANT all the information that was downloaded. The Audit office only wanted a relatively small amount of information, but were told that due to government cuts it was too costly to separate out the required information.

Typical government behaviour - blame it on a scapegoat.

In yesterdays PM Question time I couldn't believe that Gordon Brown tried to blame the Opposition by mentioning the Tories plans to make cutbacks.

How can the Tories be to blame when Labour has been in power for the last 10 years

Also it's ironic that Brown's cost cutting measures were partly responsible for this fiasco

It gets better

Apparently the password was written on the envelope incase the other dept couldn't access it .......

The receiving dept didn't want sensitive information on the disc sent , but it was deemed too expesive to have the fields removed (huh ?)

there were cost considerations over using registered post (oh boy!)

I now actually watch PMQ's on the net ...as its the best comedy available ..out there !

This whole farce goes from bad to worse. If you had written a story about this and tried to get it published, you would have been told that it was too ludicrous and too far removed from reality. Even the old Brian Rix farces couldn't compete with this. Where are the government supporters now? Come on folks, defend them over this.
