Is it just because it's new, or because it has real advantages over XP or other Operating Systems? Do a search, something like "Vista + Reviews" and see what you get.I read that many people are paying to downgrade to XP, often because their computer can't support the extended requirements for Vista to run properly.Personally I favour the view to stick with the last but one MS operating system - or at least wait a couple of years till some of the bugs have been ironed out in the latest version. This is because when MS produce a new or upgraded operating system I think they only release the bare skeleton initially. That's one reason why we have to do all these monthly updates.Now XP is reasonably stable, but it wasn't when it first came, at least that's my experience.The only other reason to go for Vista is if you want to (and can afford to) experiment or be adventurous.As andsome advises, wait till you buy a new computer. -pops- Posted December 29, 2007 Report Share Posted December 29, 2007 That's my view as well, Dencandy.I've built a few Vista machines and had a quick play around with the O/S but there is nothing there which would persuade me to dump my current XP machines in favour of the new O/S.I think that even my next build for myself will be XP and miss Vista out altogether as there is another MS O/S already in the advanced stages of development, we are told. Mike567 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Share Posted December 30, 2007 Personally I'm happiest when running Linux.I find Vista and XP rather annoying for every day life, linux I can just cruse along with.The only time I would ever use XP is if I had deepfreeze on it, other than that I find it hard and time wasting to run windows, only thing with linux is I cannot use photoshop :(. Coreper Posted December 31, 2007 Report Share Posted December 31, 2007 nodefinitly notim using windows xp, and considered moving to windows vista a while agobut i stayed with xp, because of several reasons:-windows xp will be supported longer by MS-windows vista has got to high requirements [i can easily handle vista, but running vista slows down your computer way too much in comparison with xp]-almost every peace of software for vista is capable with xp [after editing a few things]-xp is much better supported [drivers, etc.]the only reason to chose vista is DX10.1but even if you look at that, you will notice that it isnt worth moving on:DX10.1 significantly decreases your computer' performance [during games ofcourse] and the current available hardware [for desktop computers] isnt able of running DX10.1 full...i recommend you just wait a few years and get Windows 7 [a.k.a. Vienna]vista is just windows xp with a different GUI, a few systems changes, a lot of crap, and a lot of other changes [xp and vista are both based on the same NT engine...]maybe vista is worth buying after a few years [with SP2 or something...] Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I had felt XP was pretty much complete... very stable for me and I became lazy with my pc...Not so with Vista.. I've had a few .............. frustrations, shall we say...SP1 is in Beta and when it's done maybe it will be a better OS. Right now I would stick with XP , if that's what you're running.. I've used both for hobby and in 'professional situations' and prefer GIMP.As for Vista... If I was to get a computer pre-loaded with Vista - so be it.
