Turning land over to growing these is now causing a shortage of food crops, with a resultant rise in food prices.

catgate
I think a third of the arable land is in compulsory set aside, so there is no shortage of landThat is interesting. Is it true or just official propaganda? There is some smallish amount of set aside round here but I would not have put it so high.

catgate
I think it is, it is rotated around the farm. I think it may have been 10%, but is now finished, just googled.Well, to me, any set aside is too much. We might as well get our farmers to grow our food rather than funding the EU extravagance, even if it costs a little more in the shops.Mind you that would mean less subsidy to the EU from the Treasury, and more vat into the Treasury and result in more money for rocking Buck Rogers to fritter away on jollies and ego inflation. It's to late now, they will not bail themselves out in my eye's.Well they have around 2 and a half years to put things right but, like you, I personally think they are fighting a losing battle.Another thing that people feel strongly about is the overall level of taxation which is higher than it's ever been before perhaps I'll just have to watch PMQs next week and die of frustration Parliament is currently in recess so I don't think there is a PMQ session next week

Funded by massive governemnt borrowing against 1/4 of the UK's working population paid for by the state ...fake .... and its going tits upYes and the current 'credit crunch' is only going to make things worse and the UK could even go into recession :0 Talking of debt, Government borrowing has risen and I read somewhere that the Government hasn't kept to it's borrowing rule and has far exceeded it's estimates.Next year it may have to borrow even more if there's a consumer slowdown as this means less tax revenue from the sale of goods and services. Yes, it definitely determines the price of gasoline which impacts not only the general consumer but also all those involved in moving good on land, in the air and by sea. Those costs are eventually passed onto the consumer. Also consider it's use in:-plastics being used as the raw material to produce many of the products we use everyday, including products packaged in plastic.-asphalt used to pave roads-fuel oil used to heat homes-fertilizers and pesticides used by farmers contain chemicals produced from petroleumThe list goes on and on but you get the point.
